About the Role
This is a 16 month co-op term with a role as a Mechanical Manufacturing Engineering (ME) person focused on supporting process improvements of MX Product and New Projects Integration (NPI). Working under general direction and guidance and collaborating with contacts in OE team to explain and interpret information. Contributes to systems and processes changes and works to achieve operational targets that impact team results. Work consists of contribution to changes in processes to solve problems. Responsible for making minor changes in processes to solve problems or improve effectiveness of approaches being utilized. Expected to recommend solutions to problems for others review. Works to achieve operational targets within job area which has impact on the overall achievement of results for the team. Work is typically on smaller, less complex projects or task-related activities.
About the Role
This is a 16 month co-op term (with 12 month terms occasionally available). You will be working within the Systems Manufacturing Engineering team, responsible for supporting the calibration, testing and validation of the customer deliverable product as executed by the shop floor technicians. The team is divided into projects and frontline roles where each have specific but also overlapping responsibilities. To be successful in this role, it is expected that you demonstrate a high level of initiative, passion and creativity in order to make a positive impact on the organization.
Primary Responsibilities
- Interfacing with the shop floor and other internal departments including Design Engineering and Quality
- Derive test procedures from the design intent, within the Manufacturing Execution System
- Streamline processes through the Value Stream, using a business case that includes return on investment
- Utilize creative freedom to innovate new processes and input to the design during New Product Introduction
- Requirement definition for tooling, equipment and automation
- Support the frontline Manufacturing Engineering team by:
- Identifying failure trends and systemic issues
- Providing direction to technicians in the troubleshooting of system level faults
- Conduct 8D root cause analysis and implement permanent corrective actions
- Leadership and support of continuous improvement initiatives and projects with varying scope as your experience increases
- Participate in daily cell MRB meetings, including the closure of NCRs and disposition of non-conforming material.
- Create and maintain documentation to support manufacturing changes, including assembly procedures, Work Instructions and Manufacturing Execution System (MES) authoring.
Required Capabilities
- Ability to learn and become a subject matter expert on system level functionality and interactions between software, firmware, hardware and optical assemblies

- Knowledge of MS Word and PowerPoint
Desired Education and Experiences
- Enrolled in an Engineering, Science or other highly technical diploma or degree program
- Coding knowledge of C#, Java, Visual Basic is an asset but not required
