Job Description:

Aerojet Rocketdyne is seeking a skilled Project Engineer with a strong background in chemical and/or electric propulsion systems to join our team. The ideal candidate will have experience working with in-space propulsion and will bring an understanding of the challenges associated with commercial, civil, and national security space hardware. They will be responsible for facilitating cross-functional engineering teams to support the design, development, analysis, manufacturing, test, and verification of in-space propulsion products including both chemical and electric propulsion systems. This role requires the ability to manage a dynamic workload and communicate effectively with internal and external customers. The role will report to the Project Engineering Manager and be based in Redmond, WA.

Essential Functions:

Working under limited supervision, support or lead program tasks and hardware technology development test efforts. The successful candidate may support both development and production programs. Among the duties will be customer presentations and submittals, as well as coordinating activities with internal organizations such as Supply Chain, Manufacturing, Quality, and Test. Estimated workload distribution:

  • 50% - Assist with providing engineering support for the production of high-performance cubesat, monopropellant, bipropellant, and/or electric rocket engines. This includes requirements management, anomaly resolution, and anomaly prevention.
  • 10% - Plan and conduct engine hot fire tests and analyze data.
  • 10% - Support component development and qualification, including supplier oversight and management.
  • 20% - Provide hardware fabrication support, including nonconformance resolution.
  • 5% - Present results at internal and external meetings.
  • 5% - Conduct performance, fluid dynamics and other engineering analysis as required in support of trade studies and programs.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree and a minimum of 6 years of relevant experience OR Graduate Degree and a minimum of 4 years of relevant experience OR in lieu of a degree, minimum of 10 years of relevant experience
  • Engineering background is required
  • Requires U.S. Citizenship, U.S. Permanent Residency or other status as a U.S. Person. Must be able to satisfy federal government requirements for access to government information and having dual citizenship may preclude you from being able to meet this requirement.

Preferred Additional Skills:

  • Excellent writing skills, verbal communication skills, and experience working in a team environment are required.
  • Some travel may be required within the United States to Aerojet Rocketdyne's customers and suppliers.
  • Experience leading technical teams is preferred.
  • Experience with rocket engine development and test is preferred.
  • A solid understanding of applicable engineering principles, business practices, and experience working directly with hardware in the aerospace industry is highly desirable.
  • Experience with monopropellant, bipropellant, and electric rocket propulsion systems desired.
  • Experience working in an equivalent engineering environment is desired. 

In compliance with pay transparency requirements, the salary range for this role in California, Massachusetts, New Jersey, Washington, and the Greater D.C, Denver, or NYC areas is $104,500.00-$193,500.00. The salary range for this role in Colorado state, Hawaii, Illinois, Maryland, Minnesota, New York state, and Vermont is $104,500.00-$193,500.00. This is not a guarantee of compensation or salary, as final offer amount may vary based on factors including but not limited to experience and geographic location.
