As a subsidiary of L3Harris Technologies and within the Integrated Mission Systems Segment, the WESCAM division develops the most advanced optical sensor and targeting systems for global defense and military sectors, National Security, Search & Rescue and Airborne law enforcement agencies. From long-range covert surveillance missions to search and rescue operations, our MX-series systems, and the mission systems solutions they are a part of, produce stabilized high-magnification electro-optical and infrared images from airborne, marine and ground based platforms, enabling our customers to see first and act first.

About the Role

This is a 16 month co-op term with a role as an Operations Project Engineer focused on supporting New Product Introductions (NPI).  Working under general direction and guidance and collaborating with contacts in Operations NPI Team to explain and interpret information. Contributes to the launch of new products and or variations of standard configurations into production to achieve operational targets that impact team results. Work consists of contribution to changes in processes to solve problems. Responsible for making minor changes in processes to solve problems or improve effectiveness of approaches being utilized. Expected to recommend solutions to problems for others review. Works to achieve operational targets within job area which has impact on the overall achievement of results for the team. Work is typically on smaller, less complex projects or task-related activities.

Primary Responsibilities 

Working in a cross-functional team with engineering, production, manufacturing engineering and procurement, this person is responsible for strategically identifying and tactically implementing improvements of WESCAM product, in accordance with product specifications and quality standards.  This role is responsible for ensuring WESCAM’s product is serviceable and has robust processes through its lifecycle.

  • Lead and participate in assigned projects related to Operations activities
  • Work in partnership with the project and cell teams to resolving technical issues and the development of new systems processes
  • Support cell team activities and resolve issues on a daily basis
  • Assist in the development of manufacturing processes and procedures for Production
  • Capture and analyze data from Frontloading activities
  • Reviewing change requests generated by engineering and mechanical staff, and implement changes as required
  • Support any other business priorities as required by Operations leadership.

Required Capabilities 

  • Must have experience with a solid modelling CAD package, SolidWorks
  • Familiar with Electro-Mechanical Manufacturing Processes
  • Able to read and understand Mechanical drawings and Electrical schematics
  • Experience and high interest in shop floor control activities
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities within a Project-based environment
  • Technical communication skills both verbal and written
  • Must be well organized, goal oriented and able to give attention to detail
  • Able to collaborate with multi-disciplinary teams across the organization
  • Experience using SolidWorks, Composer and AutoCAD an asset, but not required

Desired Education and Experiences 

  • Enrollment in a Community College or University Mechanical, Mechatronics and or Electrical Engineering program
