Meet GEOFF SHEPPARD

Leading boat units and jumping out of helicopters.

I spent much of my twenty-plus-year career in the Navy as an officer-in-charge of anti-piracy and security units in the Persian Gulf and off the Horn of Africa. That meant I spent plenty of time leading boat units and jumping out of helicopters. While we always planned and practiced missions before executing, the single most important line item was communications: satellite communications (SATCOM), Ultra High Frequency (UHF) and various on-the-move (OTM) relays, all of which are supported by L3Harris products. In fact, when I was on active duty – and long before I thought about my career journey after my military service – I knew the name on the radios I trusted the most: L3Harris.

How my naval service helped me transition to a civilian career.

As an officer in the Navy, a major task is balancing various requirements with various demands – and the same is true for a Program Manager. There are numerous factors that influence program success. Maintaining awareness of how those factors impact the program, and managing them for a positive outcome, is imperative for mission accomplishment. The experience I acquired as a servicemember has helped me achieve success in my career supporting warfighter readiness.

Our support for those who served is unmatched.

I am a member of our Supporting Emergency Responders and Veterans Engagement (SERVE) Employee Resource Group. It gives me the opportunity to work with other veterans at the company, share sea stories and volunteer within the community. Most importantly, we help other veterans outside of L3Harris who are in need or have fallen on difficult times. I’m proud of my company for giving the SERVE team the time and space to take on this important mission.

L3Harris also partnered with and presented a grant to the organization Homes for our Troops (HFOT). The grant promotes the HFOT mission to build and donate specially adapted custom homes to severely injured post-9/11 Veterans to help them rebuild their lives. HFOT homes are built in the communities of the veteran’s choosing—often near L3Harris locations. Company employees are given opportunities to engage with HFOT during community kickoff events, volunteer days and key ceremonies.
