Job Description:
L3Harris is seeking Software Functional Engineering Director to lead a team of Software Engineers. The Engineering Director will lead a team of over 150 engineers and managers in support of the Advanced Effects (AE) sector product and program portfolio. In this role, the individual will spearhead the development and execution of the software engineering strategy encompassing people, processes, and tools to meet both current and future business needs. Software is at the core of most of our programs, with a wide-ranging set of technologies driving innovative capabilities to include embedded real-time systems, AI/ML-enabled techniques, advanced signal processing algorithm development, and intuitive user-facing displays and control mechanisms. The ideal candidate is a strategic and innovative leader with deep technical expertise and a passion for developing high-performing engineering teams to deliver mission capabilities to our customers at speed and at scale. Additionally, the individual will be accountable and partner with the Advanced Effects Division Chief Engineers to ensure that all functional engineering resources (people, process, tool) are appropriate deployed to support the execution and performance of all AE sector products and programs. The Engineering Director will report to the Sr. Director of Engineering in Advanced Effects.
Essential Functions:
Interfaces with AE Chief Engineering to ensure Software Engineering needs are met on a multitude of different efforts.
Orchestrate plans for continuous improvements in processes, systems, and products.
Manages the implementation of strategy and establishes short-term operational plans with measurable contribution to function/area results.
Drives results internally by developing and tracking metrics for software engineering and holding team accountable for project deliverables.
Meets functional requirements of staffing, training, talent development, engagement, retention, and overall management of the department.
Acts as an advisor to subordinate supervisors or staff members to meet schedules or resolve technical or operational problems.
Exerts influence in the successful execution of programs, pursuits & projects through review of actions such as but not limited to review basis of estimates (BOE), Estimates at Complete (EACs), tracking program technical performance measures, and ensures programs adherence to engineering processes and best practice.
Owns Continuous Improvement & Quality Accountability through ownership of discipline productivity and quality measures, process training and process rigor.
Drives Software Engineering maturity initiatives.
Support to delivering top line growth by working with Business Development, Program Management, and Business Leadership to provide input for Strategic Planning, Research and Development Planning, and Inter-Corporation Resource Sharing
Stays abreast of state-of-the-art technology advancement, identifying disruptive or emerging technology trends for inclusion in IRAD, innovation, or pursuit/program ECP opportunities product improvements.
Ability to obtain U.S. Secret Security Clearance.
Up to 25% business travel.
Qualifications:
Bachelor’s Degree and minimum 15 years of prior engineering experience. Graduate Degree and a minimum of 13 years of prior related engineering experience. In lieu of a degree, minimum of 19 years of prior related engineering experience.
5+ years management and leadership experience in directly leading staff full lifecycle developments, including executing performance appraisals, managing staffing allocation, process leadership and career development.
Preferred Additional Skills:
- Active U.S. TS/SCI Security Clearance.
- Ability to work in a matrixed organization.
- Proven history of execution in an Agile development environment.
- Practical knowledge of DevOps.
- Knowledgeable and experienced in generating & approving robust EACs, risk & opportunity management, stage/gate processes.
- Experience with Earned Value Management System (EVMS) metrics collection and reporting.
- Effective presentation and communication skills.
- Proven leader with strong influence skills.
- Comfortable working in a high volume, fast-paced, rapidly changing, results-oriented work environment.
- Excellent team building skills.
- Ability to effectively collaborate and integrate across organizations.
- Master’s or Doctorate degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or Computer Science.
- Experience leading flight test programs for unmanned platform payloads.
- Familiarity with computer networking protocols and networking hardware, Windows, and Linux-based environments, and x86 virtualization technologies.
In compliance with pay transparency requirements, the salary range for this role in California, Massachusetts, New Jersey, Washington, and the Greater D.C, Denver, or NYC areas is $194,500.00 - $361,500.00. The salary range for this role in Colorado state, Hawaii, Illinois, Maryland, Minnesota, New York state, Cleveland Ohio, and Vermont is $168,500.00- $313,500.00. This is not a guarantee of compensation or salary, as final offer amount may vary based on factors including but not limited to experience and geographic location.
