About the Role
The Quality Engineering Specialist is responsible for monitoring the quality of assigned products produced in manufacturing operations, monitoring field reported quality issues of assigned products, coordinating corrective action on all quality issues in a timely manner, and providing regular status reporting to management.
Tasks to be Accomplished
- Assist Quality Manager as tasked to address quality assurance process issues. Drive back to front end of the process to understand why items escaped and put action plan in place to illuminate reoccurrence
- Compile and analyze quality performance data, develop graphs, charts and quality reports including the quality of Quality data
- Participate/audit/drive QA metrics
- Conduct developmental Quality Assurance audits
- Lead or Support PFMEA (Process Failure Modes and Effects Analysis),CAR (Corrective Action Request) process for both customer and internal CARs, RCCA ( Root Cause Corrective Action process)
- Follow a structured problem solving approach using 8D or Six Sigma tools and techniques
- Coordinate with Production, Operations Engineering, Engineering and Program Management to conduct product and process failure analysis and determine root cause corrective and preventative action
- Function as project manager as required in support of task teams created to address particular quality issues and/or concerns
- Prepare reports, corrective action statements, metrics and other documents in support of assigned product lines
- Have a comprehensive understanding of the quality of Quality data
- Investigate deficiencies that are internally generated or supplier-caused to determine causes, corrective actions and disposition of defects
- Lead ZDP process for respective area and/or key metric
- Must be able to communicate data in daily/weekly/monthly meetings
- Must be able to create ECR/ECO/PR through Team Centre
- Must be able to sign off ECR/CECO/WICI/LOG/RFV through Team Centre
- Must be able to use the ERP LN (Enterprise Resource Planning) system
- Perform process audits
- Provides regular progress status reports to management
- Support the Containment process
- Travel to Service Centers for scheduled Audits.
- Support Voice of the Customer through Service Center & Factory service.
- Support Government Property Management
Skills Required
- Ability to read & write technical reports
- Ability to read and understand complex technical requirements
- Ability to research/investigate/interview
Experience & Education Requirements
- Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering (mechanical, materials, engineering science) or science
- 3-5 years of product development, manufacturing quality control or test experience desired
- Professional Engineering designation an asset
- Ability to root cause quality issues that surface in a product manufacturing operation eg. 8D, PFMEA
- Six Sigma Green belt or Black Belt designation is an asset
- Quality Assurance/Auditing/Investigation experience an asset
- Knowledge of ISO 9001/AS9100 processes
- Strong oral and written communication skills
- Possesses the diplomatic skill needed to facilitate improvements in organization-wide processes
- Good organization skills and ability to multi-task in a fast paced product-manufacturing environment
- Prior experience working with military/defense programs is highly desired
*This posting is for a current vacancy. In the province of Ontario, Canada, the pay range for this position will be $82,000 to $102,000
