As a subsidiary of L3Harris Technologies and within the Integrated Mission Systems Segment, the WESCAM division develops the most advanced optical sensor and targeting systems for global defense and military sectors, National Security, Search & Rescue and Airborne law enforcement agencies. From long-range covert surveillance missions to search and rescue operations, our MX-series systems, and the mission systems solutions they are a part of, produce stabilized high-magnification electro-optical and infrared images from airborne, marine and ground based platforms, enabling our customers to see first and act first.
About the Role
This is a 16 month co-op term within the Systems Operations Engineering team. You will be responsible for supporting the processes that test and validate customer deliverable products as executed by highly skilled factory technicians. The System Operations Engineering team is comprised of two groups, projects and frontline roles where each have specific but also similar responsibilities. To be successful in this role, it is expected that you demonstrate a high level of initiative, curiosity, self-awareness and creativity. You will bring the ability to solve problems, seek information and approach the role with a positive attitude that is accompanied by a methodical approach. More about the Role:
- Interface with the shop floor and other internal departments including Design Engineering and Quality.
- Derive test procedures from the design intent, within the Manufacturing Execution System.
- Support the Operations Systems Engineering team by:
- Contributing and owning actions to larger scope projects.
- Supporting root cause, identifying data trends and systemic issues.
- Providing direction to technicians in the troubleshooting of system level faults.
- Streamline processes through the Value Stream, using a business case that includes return on investment.
- Utilize creative freedom to innovate new processes and input to the design during New Product Introduction.
- Requirement definition for tooling, equipment and automation.
- Leadership and support of continuous improvement initiatives and projects with varying scope as your experience increases.
- Participate in daily cell MRB meetings, including the closure of NCRs and disposition of non-conforming material.
- Create and maintain documentation to support manufacturing assembly and test procedures, and automation authoring within the Manufacturing Execution System (MES).
Skills Required
- Capacity to engage with others in a professional manner, communicating using both technical and interpersonal communication skills.
- Show resourcefulness in seeking feedback and background information to carry out duties to a high level of quality.
- Methodology to break down complex directions and execute work by identifying and managing small milestones.
- Demonstrate the ability to apply theory and instruction to real-time work place scenarios.
- Ability to learn and become comfortable with the system level functionality and interactions between software, firmware, and hardware for both the Manufacturing Execution System and WESCAM product.
- Problem solving using critical thinking and decisive reasoning
Experience & Education Requirements
- Enrolled in an Engineering, Science or other highly technical diploma or degree program
- Coding knowledge of C#, Java, Visual Basic is an asset but not required
