Job Description

The Supplier Quality Assurance (SQA) Source Inspector performs in‑process and final inspections and reviews supplier End Item Data Packages (EIDPs) to support product acceptance of complex aerospace hardware. This field‑based role partners closely with Supplier Quality Engineers and SQA leadership, conducting inspections at assigned suppliers and supporting pre‑award engagements, process improvement efforts, and corrective action activities. The Source Inspector applies advanced inspection skills and quality expertise to ensure product integrity, drive continuous improvement, and support mission success across the supply base.

Essential Functions

• Perform in‑process and final inspections of machined components, composite structures, and aerospace assemblies to verify compliance with engineering drawings and specifications.
• Support Supplier Quality Engineers with First Article Inspection (FAI) activities.
• Review Supplier End Item Data Packages (EIDPs) for accuracy, completeness, and compliance.
• Issue turn‑backs for product or documentation nonconformances that prevent acceptance.
• Apply Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T) principles to validate conformity and determine appropriate inspection coverage.
• Use precision inspection tools including calipers, micrometers, height gages, comparators, borescopes, and visual inspection instruments.
• Interpret engineering drawings, blueprints, and specifications to ensure proper inspection execution and documentation.
• Collaborate with Supplier Quality Engineers and Quality Managers to resolve nonconformances and support corrective action efforts.
• Participate in supplier Work‑in‑Process (WIP) meetings and complete activity reporting.
• Support inspection needs at assigned suppliers and backfill other inspectors as required; travel may include domestic and international assignments, sometimes on short notice.
• Ensure compliance with internal procedures, customer requirements, and applicable industry and regulatory standards.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s Degree with 6 years of related experience; OR Graduate Degree with 4 years of related experience; OR in lieu of a degree, 10 years of supplier quality or inspection experience.
• Proficiency in GD&T, inspection of complex assemblies, and inspection documentation practices.
• Skilled in the use of precision measurement tools and inspection equipment.
• Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, blueprints, and specifications.
• Ability and willingness to support domestic and international travel assignments, sometimes on short notice.

• Ability to obtain an US Security Clearance.
• Ability to travel up to 100% due to field work requirements.

Preferred Skills

• Experience reviewing nondestructive testing certifications (e.g., FPI, radiography).
• Advanced knowledge of GD&T principles and applications.
• Aerospace industry experience in supplier quality, source inspection, or related roles.
• Familiarity with nonconformance documentation and corrective action processes.
• Experience performing independent product acceptance under stamp warranty authority.
• Working knowledge of AS9100, AS9102, and AS9120 standards.
• ASQ CQI or Six Sigma training/certification.
• Knowledge of IPC‑J‑STD‑001 and IPC‑A‑610 requirements.
• Experience with borescope inspections.
• Strong attention to detail and commitment to accurate documentation.
• Bilingual in Spanish.

• Effective verbal and written communication skills.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications.

In compliance with pay transparency requirements, the salary range for this role in California is $84,000 – $156,000. This is not a guarantee of compensation or salary, as final offer amounts may vary based on factors including but not limited to experience and geographic location.
