Job Description:

The Manager, Subcontracts leads a team of subcontract professionals and oversees subcontract activities supporting defense and aerospace programs. This role is responsible for executing subcontract strategies and managing the full subcontract lifecycle, while ensuring compliance with cost, schedule, technical, quality, and regulatory requirements.The position also provides team leadership, assigns priorities, resolves issues, and partners with cross-functional stakeholders to manage supplier risk, support program execution, and drive process improvement and functional excellence.

Essential Functions:

• Leads a team of subcontracts professionals supporting programs, customers, or business areas.
• Provides daily leadership, coaching, performance management, and employee development.
• Oversees the full subcontract lifecycle, from planning and solicitation through award, administration, and closeout.
• Partners with program leadership and cross-functional teams to support technical, schedule, financial, and compliance objectives.
• Resolves escalated supplier, contractual, and performance issues.
• Monitors subcontract risk, performance, documentation, and audit readiness.
• Drives process improvement, standardization, and operational excellence.
• Supports hiring, onboarding, training, and workforce development.
• May lead high-visibility subcontract efforts and represent the function in meetings and reviews.
• Travel up to 25% may be required.

Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s Degree and minimum 9 years prior related experience managment; or a Graduate Degree with a minimum of 7 years of prior related management experience; or in lieu of a degree, minimum of 13 years of prior related managment experience.

Preferred Additional Skills:

• Prior experience in a formal people manager role.
• Experience supporting defense, aerospace, or U.S. Government contracting programs.
• Strong knowledge of FAR, DFARS, CPSR expectations, and subcontract compliance requirements.
• Experience with a variety of subcontract types, including fixed-price, cost-reimbursement, and time-and-materials.
• Experience with cost analysis, price analysis, negotiation strategy development, and supplier risk management.
• Experience managing high-value or critical subcontract portfolios.
• Experience supporting audit readiness, internal controls, purchasing system reviews, and compliance assessments.
• Familiarity with earned value, funding profiles, program controls, and supplier performance metrics.
• Working knowledge of ITAR, EAR, and export compliance requirements.
• Demonstrated success in talent development, coaching, mentoring, and team capability building.
• Strong communication, organizational, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.

In compliance with pay transparency requirements, the salary range for this role in California, Massachusetts, New Jersey, Washington, and the Greater D.C. area, Denver, or NYC areas is $110,500.00 - $205,000.00. The salary range for this role in Colorado state, Hawaii, Illinois, Maine, Maryland, Minnesota, New York state, Cleveland Ohio, Vermont and Virginia is $95,500.00 - $177,500.00. This is not a guarantee of compensation or salary, as final offer amount may vary based on factors including but not limited to experience and geographic location. The specific programs and options available to an employee may vary depending on date of hire, schedule type, and the applicability of collective bargaining agreements.
