Job Title Lead, Workers Compensation Claim Administrator

L3Harris is seeking an experienced, proactive, and solutions-focused Workers Compensation and Defense Base Act (“DBA”) Claims Administrator to oversee the claims management process and drive continuous improvement to maximize the efficiency and effectiveness of the Workers Compensation program.  This role will report to Risk Management, and will be responsible for working in partnership with L3Harris business segments, Environmental, Health, and Safety (EHS”), Occupational Health Nurses (“OHNs”), Payroll, Human Resources (“HR”), Legal, our Third Party Administrators (“TPA”) and carriers, as well as the Department of Labor’s Office of Workers’ Compensation Programs (“OWCP”) to develop and manage a best-in-class program.

Responsibilities:

  • Claims Management: Oversee the administration of the Workers’ Compensation program, coordinating with OHNs across the company to ensure that all claims are reported timely to the third-party administrator once notified of the incident or injury.  Monitor and administer claims; collaborate with various L3Harris business areas and functions to support efficient and effective claims management and settlements, as applicable.  Assess the compensability of claims based on workplace injury details and applicable laws.  The Claims administrator will review, approve, or provide advice, as needed, for oversight of medical, legal, damage estimates, and miscellaneous invoices.  Process claim payments according to state regulations.

For DBA claims, the administrator will be responsible for initiating claims with the carrier, fling necessary forms, and managing communication with the OWCP. 

  • Working with TPA and Carrier: Serve as the point of contact for the L3Harris Workers Compensation TPAs and carriers.  The Claims Administrator will coordinate with internal stakeholders to support the investigation and evaluation of claims; schedule and attend all claim file reviews; maintain and update Special Handling Instructions, and provide feedback to TPAs and Carriers regarding the services provided.

  • Cross-Functional Collaboration:Develop strong relationships across functions and L3Harris business segments, including EH&S, OHNs, Payroll, Human Resources, Legal, and business leaders as sites across the Company in order to facilitate sharing of information, mitigate risk, and drive efficient claims management.  Work with the OHN and Telephone Triage contact on claims and return to work.  Authorize medical treatment plans and manage referrals to appropriate treatment facilities within network for L3Harris employees where care can be directed.  Conduct claim reviews and/or training sessions for designated clients, as requested.  Collaborate with legal counsel on complex claims.

  • Supporting Legal Settlement: Collaborate with employees, managers, insurance carriers, medical staff and internal stakeholders – to include OHN, HR, CHQ Legal Litigation and Labor & Employment Counsel – to manage and resolve medical claims and support return-to-work objectives.

  • Reporting:  Prepare reports, metrics, and data analysis detailing claims status, payments, costs, reserves, and other regular reports as needed.

  • Policy Updates: Manage Workers' Compensation policy and develop and maintain work instructions, roles and responsibilities documentation, and standard work to ensure current and future effective management of claims.

  • Continuous Improvement: Identify opportunities to drive efficiencies, improve processes, and implement best practices to develop a best-in-class Workers Compensation Program. 

  • Compliance: Stay updated on state Workers’ Compensation laws and regulations; ensure adherence to company policies and processes regarding claims handling; and participate in compliance audits, as required.

Qualifications:

  •  Bachelor’s Degree and minimum 9 years of prior relevant experience managing claims filed under Workers Compensation programs and Defense Base Act claims.. Graduate Degree and a minimum of 7 years of prior related experience. In lieu of a degree, minimum of 13 years of prior related experience.
  • Willingness to travel 5-10% of the year

Preferred Additional Skills:

  • Proven track record of working across functions and departments at a large company to accomplish objectives while overseeing a Workers Compensation Program
  • Strong understanding of Workers Compensation and Defense Base Act laws and regulations.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Strong interpersonal skills to ensure successful interactions with injured workers, OHNs, healthcare providers, TPAs, carriers, and legal professionals.
  • 10+ years of experience in a corporate setting overseeing Workers Compensation claims.
  • Strong attention to detail and organizational skills to manage a complex case load.
  • Ability to analyze operational issues, diagnose problem areas and provide change leadership.
  • Prior experience in an aerospace & defense or technology company is a plus.

In compliance with pay transparency requirements, the salary range for this role in Colorado State, Hawaii, Illinois, Maryland, Minnesota, Vermont and New York State is $94,000-$174,000. For California, Seattle, Washington D.C., Maryland Greater Washington D.C. area, the city of Denver, Washington State and New York City, the salary range for this role is $108,000-$201,000 This is not a guarantee of compensation or salary, as final offer amount may vary based on factors including but not limited to experience and geographic location. The specific programs and options available to an employee may vary depending on date of hire, schedule type, and the applicability of collective bargaining agreements.
