Job Description:
L3Harris Technologies is seeking a Lead of Environmental, Health and Safety (EH&S) to serve as a subject matter expert for safety and compliance in explosives manufacturing, assembly, and test of solid rocket motors for the Missile Solutions (MSL) business segment of L3Harris. The successful candidate can be remote with frequent travel to Missile Propulsion locations. This position is responsible to support our site EH&S teams in the delivery of propulsion products for launch vehicles, missile defense, and advanced hypersonic propulsion.
This position reports to the MSL Segment Director of EH&S and will be responsible to ensure processes necessary for delivered products conform to L3Harris requirements for a safe workplace and regulatory compliance, including but not limited to, Federal, State and local regulations, as well as contractual requirements, such as, Department of Defense (DoD) 4145.26M.
Essential Functions:
- Develop innovative solutions for difficult and complex EH&S problems
- Provide effective direction, leadership and mentoring regarding energetics safety.
- Communicate and collaborate effectively with all levels of management, individual contributors, customer, and agency representatives.
- Communicate highly technical concepts clearly and concisely both orally and in writing.
- Establish, monitor, and control projects, budgets, and schedules to achieve goals and objectives.
- Review and interpret business impact due to regulatory & DoD 4145.26M requirements.
- Manage the development and presentation of studies and reports.
- Seamlessly work with Solid Rocket Motor Expansion Project Managers and local site EH&S to ensure new construction complies with DoD 4145.26M and regulatory requirements.
- Utilize Explosive Site Safety Software to digitize all Explosive Site Safety Plans.
- Audit energetic suppliers to DoD 4145.26M requirements
- Participate in energetic Process Hazard Analyses and risk assessments.
- Assist in accident investigations and recommend corrective and preventative actions.
- Conduct routine audits and inspections to identify and eliminate non-compliance issues.
- Travel: Up to 60% business travel within the continental U.S.
- Ability to obtain a US Secret Security Clearance.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s Degree and minimum 9 years of prior Environmental, Health & Safety experience. Graduate Degree and a minimum of 7 years of prior Environmental, Health & Safety experience. In lieu of a degree, minimum of 13 years of prior Environmental, Health & Safety experience.
- Bachelor's degree in an appropriate discipline and fifteen (15) years of progressive experience and responsibility, or an equivalent combination of education and experience in Environmental, Health & Safety responsibilities.
- At least 7 years of experience working under DoD 4145.26M requirements.
Preferred Additional Skills:
- Certified Safety Professional, Certified Industrial Hygienist, and/or Certified Hazardous Material Manager.
- Experience/knowledge/training in OSHA General Industry and Construction Regulations, Process Safety Management, Process Hazard Analysis, Explosives Safety regulations (e.g., DoD 4145.26M and ATF), and OSHA VPP program.
- Experience/knowledge of Environmental regulations (i.e., air, water/stormwater, waste, remediation, SPCC, EPCRA/SARA) including permitting and compliance .
- Ability to effectively lead in a team environment.
- Advanced degree in an appropriate EH&S discipline.
- 24- or 40-hour OSHA Hazardous Waste Operations and Emergency Response (HAZWOPER) training.
In compliance with pay transparency requirements, the salary range for this role in Colorado State, Hawaii, Illinois, Maryland, Minnesota, Vermont and New York State is $95,500 - $177,500. For California, Seattle, Washington D.C., Maryland Greater Washington D.C. area, the city of Denver, Washington State and New York City, the salary range for this role is $110,500 - $205,000. This is not a guarantee of compensation or salary, as final offer amount may vary based on factors including but not limited to experience and geographic location.
