Job Description:
L3Harris Broadband Communications Systems is currently seeking a dynamic, hands-on Build & Release Engineer for our Software Configuration Management Team. This position specializes in managing, documenting, and enhancing our organization's software programs and ensures timely software releases. The main responsibility of therelease engineer is to use automation tools, like Jenkins, to make building and releasing the program software faster. Your work will contribute directly to the security of our nation.
Essential Functions:
- Programming – Release engineers are proficient in various computer languages and demonstrate a full understanding of programming best practices; knowledge of databases, networking systems, and computer operating systems is also essential
- Troubleshooting – Testing new software to identify and resolve any potential issues is a major part of this role
- Analytical thinking – Analyzing instructions to create code is a requirement for release engineers
- Collaboration– Partner and work very closely with the engineering leadership staff, software developers, program and system engineers, system & software quality assurance team and others involved in the software release process
- Communication skills – Strong verbal and written communication skills are essential, as release engineers communicate with various personnel and help write manuals and reference materials
- Time management – To make new software products available to the public in a timely manner, companies rely on release engineers to build systems and fix bugs according to schedule
- Change management – Release engineers can comfortably adapt to any changes in the production process and can meet rescheduled deadlines
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s Degree in CS, CE, or equivalent software degree and minimum 4 years of prior relevant experience. Graduate Degree and a minimum of 2 years of prior related experience.
- 4+ years’ experience in software development
- Ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. security clearance
Preferred Additional Skills:
- Advanced degree in CS or CE
- Active U.S. security clearance
- Ability to communicate confidently and concisely to both engineers and non-engineers
- Proven ability to translate vision/strategy into clear priorities and direction
- Highly collaborative with the ability to quickly establish trust and credibility among peers and customers
- Deep experience with diverse embedded hardware, including microcontrollers, PowerPC, ARM, x86, and different hardware acceleration engines
- A working knowledge of modem and wireless communication system architectures for line of sight and satellite applications
- Experience with user interface technologies including modern web development
- Knowledge of software defined networking technologies and protocols
- A strong knowledge of modern software development tools, technology, processes, and techniques including agile, DevSecOps, and containerization
- Experience managing development and products that include open source software
- Experience developing software for Department of Defense and intelligence community applications
