Job description:

The Quality Assurance Associate Manager is responsible for leading a team of inspectors and professionals conducting inspections and audits of purchased parts and units for compliance with company standards and customer specifications. This role demands an advanced ability to interpret manufacturing drawings, diagrams, specifications, and lists to validate the approval or rejection of units. The Associate Manager ensures that all support documentation and performance data reviews are accurately maintained, and that in-process and finished products meet the highest quality standards. Additionally, this role involves determining and implementing efficient inspection methods and procedures, validating product and documentation compliance, and preparing items for customer acceptance and delivery. A key component of this role is to drive continuous improvement efforts and projects within the quality function.

Essential Functions:

  • Lead and supervise a team of inspectors and professionals across multiple areas.
  • Plan, establish, and achieve operational objectives for the team.
  • Adjust and refine procedures and processes as necessary to meet team goals.
  • Apply management approaches including work scheduling, prioritizing, coaching, and execution.
  • Ensure the inspection of products complies with company workmanship standards, engineering requirements, customer specifications, work instructions, control plans, and necessary requirements.
  • Maintain rigorous control of non-conforming products and keep accurate records.
  • Validate product and documentation compliance for customer acceptance and delivery.
  • Communicate effectively with internal and external parties to explain and interpret policies, practices, and procedures.
  • Collaborate with peers and other departments to support business objectives and ensure seamless operations.
  • Analyze processes and problems to develop and recommend effective solutions that meet customer and internal project requirements.
  • Bring expertise or identify subject matter experts to support multi-functional efforts in process improvement, data capture and analysis, infrastructure support, and compliance with procedures.
  • Identify problems and offer straightforward solutions.
  • Drive continuous improvement efforts and projects within the quality function to enhance efficiency, product quality, and customer satisfaction.

Qualifications:

  • Basic management skills including work scheduling, prioritizing, coaching, and process execution.
  • Experience working in a team environment to solve problems and balance workloads.
  • Proficient in using the MS Office Suite.
  • Strong written and oral communication skills with the ability to interface across the organization to achieve effective results.
  • Requires practical knowledge in leading and managing the execution of processes, projects, tactics, and employees within a team. Typically has strong knowledge and skills within a specific technical or professional discipline with understanding of the impact of work on other areas of the organization. Bachelor’s Degree with a minimum 6 years prior relevant experience. Graduate Degree with a minimum of 4 years of prior related experience. In lieu of a degree, minimum of 10 years of prior related experience.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Ability to inspect products and associated documents in accordance with company workmanship standards, engineering requirements, customer specifications, work instructions, inspection plans, and other necessary requirements.
  • Hands-on experience using gauges such as microscopes, calipers, micrometers, thread gauges, height gauges, scales, and other measuring equipment.
  • Working knowledge and understanding of AS9100/ISO 9001 quality systems.
  • Experience with electronics workmanship standards such as IPC-A-610 and IPC-A-620.
  • Experience in aerospace manufacturing, mechanical assemblies, and/or electronic assemblies.
  • Experience with project management, Lean tools, and Six Sigma principles.
