Job Description:

L3Harris’ Communication Systems segment is currently seeking a dynamic and experienced Sr. Manager of Software Engineering to lead our team and drive impactful results. This position will be based at our Rochester, NY facility and offers a 9/80 work schedule. The Software Engineering Manager will manage a team of professionals, overseeing the architecture, design, coding, integration, testing and sustainment of the Radio Software in the HF product family.  This Manager will also work in close collaboration with the business to achieve operational plans and business goals and carry out a strategic vision.

Essential Functions:

  • Responsible for creating plans and managing the execution of one or more software projects to ensure alignment with scope, schedule, and budget.
  • Develop workforce and staffing plans to ensure the necessary personnel are available and balanced across projects to achieve prioritized business goals.
  • Support new business pursuits and opportunities through proposal creation, scope definition and total effort estimation.
  • Provide inputs and recommend tactics and strategies to the product line.
  • Oversee the functional management of a mid-sized team of experienced professionals, while also providing coaching, guidance, and mentorship.
  • Lead teams through the complete software development lifecycle and release execution, utilizing best practices and adhering to company-defined processes.
  • Provide cross-functional leadership and comprehensive management, requiring collaboration with manufacturing and test teams, as well as Product and Program leaders.
  • Analyze complex problems to understand root causes and develop innovative solutions that consider multiple variables across functional teams and disciplines.
  • Articulate complex technical issues at a high level to influence leadership and stakeholders to embrace new practices, approaches, and concepts.
  • Conduct briefings to senior leaders and influence decisions on matters of substantial importance.
  • Communicate within and outside of the organization to influence leadership to accept new practices, approaches, and concepts.
  • Ability to Obtain a US Security Clearance

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree and a minimum of 12 years of prior relevant experience. Graduate Degree and a minimum of 10 years of prior related experience. In lieu of a degree, minimum of 16 years of prior related experience in Software Engineering Management.

Preferred Additional Skills:

  • Comprehensive knowledge of embedded software development on software defined radio platforms.
  • Experience with real-time operating systems (e.g. VxWorks RTOS, Linux, QNX)
  • Experience in delivering fully integrated systems (hardware, firmware, software) in a DoD environment.
  • Experience integrating software with hardware.
  • Excellent people and communication skills
  • Experience developing software in C/C++, Java, and Python.
  • Experience with DevOps practices and tools
  • Experience leading technical projects and teams of software engineers to complete complex programs.
  • Experience with Agile software development and the software development lifecycle.

In compliance with pay transparency requirements, the salary range for this role in New York State is $138,000 - $256,000. This is not a guarantee of compensation or salary, as final offer amount may vary based on factors including but not limited to experience and geographic location. The specific programs and options available to an employee may vary depending on date of hire, schedule type, and the applicability of collective bargaining agreements.
