Job Description:
L3Harris Technologies, Inc. is seeking a Senior Technical Writer with a strong knowledge of software-oriented technical writing. The candidate will be responsible for planning, developing, and delivering software technical and non-technical documentation in compliance with customer requirements, standards, and release schedules. The Writer will be expected to collect essential content from available artifacts and consultation with staff. Document types may include requirements specifications, designs, test plans and reports, security plans and reports, O&M manuals, and user guides, among others. The candidate must be able independently to manage multiple, concurrent, complex documentation projects and processes with general oversight. The candidate must possess excellent organizational skills and attention to detail with the ability to maintain focus on tasks.
Essential Functions:
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including development teams, product managers, and subject matter experts to gather information and understand complex technical concepts
- Develop, organize, and deliver technical information in compliance with required scope and format using commonly available Microsoft Word, Visio and similar tools
- Read technical drawings and convert the information into easy-to-understand explanations, illustrations, procedures, etc. applicable to the document type
- Communicate complex information clearly, concisely, and accurately and be comfortable asking questions to ensure accuracy
- Identify and fill documentation gaps by conducting independent research, interviews, and hands-on exploration of the product
- Understand the technology and products being documented, with a keen ability to learn new technologies quickly and hands-on, and to thrive in a fast-paced environment
- Review documentation for style, design, layout, accuracy, consistency, completeness, compliance, and editorial aspects, collaborating with technical staff
- Ensure best practices and style guides are adhered to while maintaining a consistent tone, structure, and format across all technical documentation
- Proactively engage with development teams to ensure timely updates and revisions to the documentation based on design changes
- Ability to obtain a US Security Clearance
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s Degree and minimum 6 years of prior relevant experience. Graduate Degree and a minimum of 4 years of prior related experience. In lieu of a degree, minimum of 10 years of prior related experience.
Preferred Additional Skills:
- Experience with S1000D requirements and use in technical writing
- Experience efficiently creating and editing accurate documentation with the assistance of advanced AI tools like Microsoft Copilot, Codex, and others
- Experience working with the Atlassian Suite (JIRA, Confluence, etc.)
- Experience creating companion information such as illustrations using photography or illustration software (Photoshop) or flowcharts/graphs using Visio
- Experience collecting design content from MBSE modeling tools such as Cameo
- Experience with review and release management tools such as Code Collaborator and PDM/PLM
- Understanding of Software Development Lifecycle (SDLC)
- Experience in use of FrameMaker software
