Job Description:
The Model-Based Systems Engineering (MBSE) Chief Architect will perform the roles and responsibilities of a Scientist, Systems Engineering (Level 6), supporting programs across the Advanced Combat Systems (ACS) Sector. The MBSE Chief Architect is also responsible for developing and leading MBSE and Digital Engineering initiatives across ACS.
Essential Functions:
- Developing, maintaining, and overseeing the overall Model-Based Systems Engineering (MBSE) strategy and approaches used by Systems Engineering (SE) across the Advanced Combat Systems (ACS) Sector, including: evaluating and recommending tools & processes; supporting SE Program Leads to implement and monitor the MBSE strategy; coaching and mentoring SE staff in MBSE; collaboration with other discliplines for overall Digital Engineering functional integration; securing executive and management support for MBSE strategy and initiatives; review programs from a DE stand point; support the start up of new programs with DE architectures, best practices, and guidance; support external efforts for the organization and sector to represent the company with regards to DE. This includes RFI Responses, Working Group Attendance, and training efforts.
- Leads requirements definition, flow-down and traceability for complex electronic systems embracing agile product systems and software development and model-based systems engineering (MBSE) processes to enhance development speed and quality; leads the execution of rapid learning cycles in requirements development, design, build, integration & test and verification & validation in a design-to-cost and design-for-manufacturability environment.
- Works with Program Managers and SE Program Leads to perform risk assessment and develop mitigation strategies for complex projects.
- Develops or champions new systems, concepts, or technologies.
- Provides multi-disciplinary subject matter expertise to highly complex systems, including working with Electrical, Mechanical, Software, and Firmware designers.
- Develops and runs simulations and other analysis tools to predict system performance in various environments.
- Formulates and presents results during internal and external program meetings.
- Provide guidance on trade studies on a variety of systems and components.
- Participate in proposal activities by approving both cost and technical estimates.
- Ability to obtain and maintain any additional clearances as required.
- Ability to lift up to 20 lbs.
- Up to 10% travel may be required.
- Other duties as required.
Qualifications:
- Active DoD clearance with current 5 year update.
- Bachelor’s Degree and a minimum of 12 years of prior relevant experience. Graduate Degree and a minimum of 10 years of prior related experience. In lieu of a degree, minimum of 16 years of prior related experience.
- Experience with requirements management, and requirements management tools.
- System level design experience in which the applicant has been involved in the design and integration of complex hardware/software systems, the definition of multiple interfaces and been involved in the trades of multiple solution options
- Multi-domain knowledge, in particular systems, software, and firmware.
- Experience in the System Design of Embedded System Architectures.
- Experience in the Digital Engineering, Model Based System Engineering (MBSE), and System Simulation.
- Experience estimating cost and determining the technical approach for proposals.
- Experience using Microsoft Office products.
Preferred Additional Skills:
- Competency making decisions with imperfect and incomplete information.
- Experience with and an understanding of aerospace systems, especially in the development of integrated hardware/software products.
- Experience as an Integrated Product Team (IPT) Lead
- Experience leading a team to complete assigned program tasking.
- Experience with Open System Architectures and Open Standards.
- Experience with Matlab or Python.
- Experience in development of use cases developed from customer objectives and concepts of operations.
- Experience with integration and test planning.
- Excellent people skills, with experience leading and collaborating in a multi-disciplinary, diverse, and dynamic team environment.
- Excellent communication skills (written, verbal, & presentation).
In compliance with pay transparency requirements, the salary range for this role in California is $150,000-$278,000. This is not a guarantee of compensation or salary, as final offer amount may vary based on factors including but not limited to experience and geographic location. The specific programs and options available to an employee may vary depending on date of hire, schedule type, and the applicability of collective bargaining agreements.
