Job Description:
L3Harris Technologies currently has an opening for a Lead, Systems Engineer – Mission Director for an important national security program.
The successful candidate will serve as the Mission Director and lead engineer for the LEOps and Mission Operations portions of the program. This role is responsible for overseeing all aspects of low-Earth orbit satellite operations, including preparation, execution, and continuous improvement of operational activities and procedures. The Mission Director will lead the team in developing, executing, and maintaining operational readiness while ensuring alignment with customer and programmatic requirements.
This role requires extensive experience with satellite operations tools such as VMOC InControl and Neptune.
Essential Functions:
- Lead the development and preparation of all mission materials, including LEOps Plans, Mission Ops Plans, User Guides, and Training Materials.
- Provide required documentation and presentations to support all major program reviews (e.g., System Requirements Review (SSR), Preliminary Design Review (PDR), Critical Design Review (CDR), Test Readiness Review (TRR), Launch Readiness, Flight Readiness, LEOps Readiness, Operational Readiness).
- Serve as the primary interface for reporting and presenting status updates to internal and external leadership.
- Manage and maintain operational environments, including Development, Security, and Operations (DevSecOps) test environments, and oversee the Configuration Management (CM) and update processes.
- Supervise the operations team, including subcontractors; manage future staffing needs, shifts schedules, and task allocation.
- Lead the training of operations teams, ensuring readiness across all team members.
- Acts as the primary point of contact for daily operations and coordinate directly with Government representatives and associate contractors.
- Own and manage the change management process and support anomaly resolution efforts, ensuring timely and thorough issue resolution.
- Perform additional duties and responsibilities as assigned in support of evolving mission requirements.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s Degree and minimum 9 years of prior relevant experience. Graduate Degree and a minimum of 7 years of prior related experience. In lieu of a degree, minimum of 13 years of prior related experience.
- Active Secret clearance required.
- 1+ years of hands-on experience with satellite operations tools (Virtual Mission Operations Center (VMOC) InControl, Neptune).
- 3+ years of experience within DevSecOps environments and configuration management.
Preferred Additional Skills:
- Proven leadership in managing large, cross-functional operations teams, including subcontractors.
- Strong technical writing skills for operational documentation and review support materials.
- Experience briefing senior leadership and presenting technical reviews.
- Demonstrated experience with mission operations planning and execution for low-Earth orbit systems.
- Ability to effectively manage change management and anomaly resolution processes.
- Excellence organizational and communication skills.
