About your next Challenge as a Senior Systems Engineer - External Communication Systems:
Working as part of a dynamic multi-disciplinary team including software, hardware, and systems engineering, the candidate will be responsible for delivery of external communication systems as part of a modern integrated naval communication system. The candidate will be expected to possess a range of knowledge about the principles of operation of systems such as shipboard radios and antennas, satellite communications, tactical data links, and wide area networks, as well as significant experience with design and integration. The candidate will lead and mentor the external communication systems design team and manage the system development and delivery plans. Success criteria for this role will include:
- Successful achievement of design review milestones;
- Delivery of produceable designs for assembly;
- Development of use-cases and system configuration sheets to support software and systems integration;
- Compliance with system requirements and successful sell-off to customers; and
- Successful completion of customer/end-user tests and trials.
What will you do:
- System Engineering activities for bids, contracts and products in the military / civilian markets for domestic / international customers ;
- Create of high-level conceptual designs, innovative, scalable, and adaptive solutions to complex systems;
- Produce Interface Control Documents (ICDs) between system components
- Perform systems studies and analyses;
- Perform trade studies and engineering budgets (power, weight, design margin, etc.);
- Risk Management including identification of risks, write risk statements, and prepare risk mitigation strategies;
- Change management including analysis and tracking of baseline changes;
- Estimate work packages;
- Design, implement and execute system test cases; analyze and evaluate test results;
- Develop technical specifications for suppliers and subcontractors, identify potential suppliers, and monitor supplier performance;
- Prepare equipment procurement specification;
- Scoping and costing specialty efforts;
- Industry engagement and trade studies for refinement of equipment specifications to develop optimal system solutions;
- Develop test plans to verify and validate requirements;
- Requirements elicitation and decomposition towards subsystem elements including subcontracted items;
- Requirements derivation and development for subsystem elements;
- Technical subcontract management including management of work scope and compliance of the (subcontractor) supplied solution;
- Develop of the preliminary and detailed designs for system and subsystem elements;
- Produce technical documentation to capture the system and subsystem designs including the architecture, interfaces and installation elements;
- Support test, verification, and validation activities;
- Provide mentorship and leadership to junior engineering staff.
Required skills and experiences:
- Extensive knowledge and experience designing integrated systems with several external communication components such as transmitters and receivers, modems, antennas, other RF components, voice networks, data networks, mobile communications, satellite communications, COMSEC, TRANSEC, and tactical data links;
- Knowledge of systems engineering processes;
- Experience working on complex defence projects;
- Proficient with software tools used for systems engineering (ie. requirements management, systems architecture and modeling, engineering change management, product life-cycle management, etc.)
- Working knowledge of electromagnetic design and modeling;
- Planning, organization and information management skills;
- Experience leading diverse teams; and
- Experience planning and managing budget, schedule, and resources.
Preferred Additional Skills:
- Experience working in naval or marine environments;
- Basic knowledge of project management;
- Licensed Professional Engineer or other relevant professional certification
Eligibility Criteria (Mandatory):
- Must be eligible for registration with the Controlled Goods Program;
- Must be eligible to obtain and maintain a government of Canada Reliability status and Secret Level 2 / NATO Secret security clearance.
- Must be eligible to meet the requirements for U.S. International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR).
