Seeking an experienced Senior Software Engineer to join our dynamic team, focusing on transition of operations from an on-premise system to a Cloud-based 24x7 operational system. Software engineering experience and operations readiness experience, especially for satellite ground systems, is required. Role encompasses the supporting transition of operations from on-premise to Cloud, overseeing the sustainment efforts (patching, upgrades) in that environment, and supporting eventual 24x7 operations.
Essential Functions:
- Participate in program reviews and provide expert recommendations to stakeholders.
- Develop and maintain technical documentation related to Cloud sustainment and operations management of a complex software system.
- Support development and operationalization for cloud migration activities.
- Ensure that all Cloud activities that include operations, tests, deployments, updates, maintenance, etc. are accurately scheduled and scheduling conflicts are identified.
- Perform oversight, guidance, monitoring, and tracking of monthly software/security patches and updates for pre-Cloud and post-Cloud operationalization.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to define and implement engineering changes.
- Provide technical support for Cloud operations, including management of a 24x7 operations staff. Lead teams of engineers across multiple professional backgrounds for anomaly analysis and resolution.
- Support real time deployment, mission test, operations, and Maintenance Schedule Resource Deconfliction. Provides stakeholders daily schedules of specific activities in all sites and environments while cataloging system impacts if necessary.
- Provide oversight, guidance, monitoring, and tracking of the Knowledge Transfer to Government-identified operations and maintenance personnel.
- Organize and support training sessions to operations personnel.
- Ensure compliance with NIST, Department of Commerce and NOAA IT security standards such as FISMA, FedRAMP, and NIST 800.53.
- Candidate must have the ability to obtain a High-Risk NOAA Public Trust clearance.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s Degree and minimum 9 years of prior relevant experience. Graduate Degree and a minimum of 7 years of prior related experience. In lieu of a degree, minimum of 13 years of prior related experience.
- Experience with 24x7 operations of complex software systems.
- Experience with Agile software development best practices and tools (SAFe, Jira, Git, etc.) and participation in continuous Agile planning and coordination.
- Experience with commercial cloud systems and services (AWS, Azure, etc.).
Preferred Additional Skills:
- Experience with Satellite Ground Systems and Data Production/Distribution Development.
- AWS Cloud certification(s).
- Advanced Kubernetes skills (including CNIs, Operators, and CRDs).
- Familiarity with container observability tools (Prometheus, Grafana, InfluxDB, PromQL).
- Experience with scaling and optimizing Kubernetes deployments.
- Automation of optimization and continuous monitoring.
- Strong problem-solving skills and ability to quickly identify root causes.
