Job Description:

Aerojet Rocketdyne is seeking an experienced Project Engineer for our Huntsville, AL Headquarters location. The Sr. Specialist Project Engineer role involves performing and/or coordinating propulsion program tasks primarily related to obsolescence management activities in conjunction with program management. Under general oversight, you will be responsible for supporting obsolescence proposal activities and management of qual plan execution related to material characterization and overseeing special studies and experiments. Additionally, you will coordinate ballistic, thermal, and structural analyses, as well as perform post-test examination, analyses, and reporting.

Essential Functions:

  • Familiarity with standard engineering tools and practices
  • Apply theories, principles and practices of engineering and project management methods to meet project and department goals.
  • Following Industry standards and practices
  • Rocket propulsion component(s) and theory of operation
  • Safety regulations, principles and practices of work safety
  • Read and interpret specifications (also write) and technical drawings.
  • Conduct technical and programmatic risk assessments
  • Balance technical scope, customer expectations, and business interests
  • Synthesize program and technical requirements necessary to achieve complex technical objectives
  • Effectively plan and coordinate schedules, cost, and work flow
  • Identify, plan, and monitor priorities
  • Conceive and plan projects involving the development of new methods to attain objectives.
  • Provide direction in problem investigations and resolution across functional areas.
  • Provide technical guidance to less senior project engineers and project support personnel.
  • May be assigned engineering Cost Account Management (CAM) duties

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree and minimum 6 years of prior project engineering experience. Graduate Degree and a minimum of 4 years of prior project engineering experience. In lieu of a degree, minimum of 10 years of prior project engineering experience.

Preferred Additional Skills:

  • Specific experience related to obsolescence qualification and material and process characterization.
  • Proposal experience i.e. BOEs, estimates, tech volume drafting is also desired.
  • Background in Analysis or Materials.
  • Propellant propulsion projects experience.
  • Aerospace material and test familiarity.
  • Knowledge of qualification and risk mitigation activities.
