Job Schedule: 9/80: Employees work 9 out of every 14 days - totaling 80 hours worked - and have every other Friday Off

Job Description:

L3Harris is seeking a Structural Engineer to join our growing facility in Huntsville, ALIn this role, the selected individual will be responsible to analyze damage tolerance, durability, design allowable, structural and thermal modeling specifically of tooling designs used in manufacture of both large and small solid rocket motors. Examples of this tooling consist of manual and semi-automated carts, mandrels, fixtures, jigs, molds, lift tools, etc. 

Additionally, the Tool Structural Engineer will be responsible for reviewing the analyses produced by other members of Tooling Engineering team as well as provide mentorship to the team on performing basic structural analyses. Analysis and project tasking will be led by the incumbent with limited oversight and direction.

Essential Functions:

  • Experience with operating solid modeling and PDM programs such as PTC Creo, Siemens NX, CATIA, Windchill, Teamcenter
  • ANSYS, Patran, MATLAB and other analysis packages
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite
  • Ability to obtain a US security clearance

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree and minimum 4 years of prior mechanical design engineering experience. Graduate Degree and minimum of 2 years of prior mechanical design engineering experience. In lieu of a degree, minimum of 8 years of prior mechanical design engineering experience.

Preferred Additional Skills:

  • Prior experience with composite material system analysis a plus
  • Prior experience with visco-elastic material analysis a plus
  • Prior experience with tooling design/analysis a plus
  • Existing clearance is a plus
  • Experience working in the defense industry is a plus
