Job Description:
L3Haris is seeking an experienced Manufacturing Technician (Composite Wind) to work at our state-of-the-art Advanced Manufacturing Facility (AMF) North in Huntsville, AL, which is our inert manufacturing facility for fabrication and assembly of large case composite rocket motor hardware.
Essential Functions:
50% - Process Oversight:
- Operate complex winding machines and adjust settings to accommodate various production requirements (offsetting).
- Ability to mix resin and understanding of the cause and effects of resin mixing and resin content.
- Operate an automated mix and dispense resin pump.
- Understands the requirements for composite skirt fabrication including the tooling required.
- Primarily works in a production setting/programs but may also assist in early development and research and development and large products.
- Oversee the entire winding process, ensuring all operations run smoothly and efficiently.
- Ability to work closely with Manufacturing Engineers on development of filament wind programs for new or research and development programs.
- Able to obtain a filament wind program and adjust the machine settings to accommodate the program to drawing requirements.
- Provides feedback to Manufacturing Engineers of observations on filament programs and manufacturing processes.
- Ability to Filament Wind from small production products to large research and development products.
15% - Strategic Maintenance Planning:
- Perform comprehensive maintenance and identify when specialized repairs are needed.
- Plan and schedule maintenance activities to minimize downtime and extend equipment life.
10% - Quality Control Leadership:
- Take full responsibility for quality assurance, ensuring products meet all specifications and standards.
- Lead the quality control efforts, setting standards and ensuring compliance across the board.
10% - Advanced Troubleshooting and Problem Solving:
- Handle complex troubleshooting and make informed decisions to correct problems efficiently.
- Solve the most challenging problems and make critical decisions that affect production.
5% - Collaborative Process Optimization:
- Suggest and implement improvements to enhance efficiency and product quality based on extensive experience.
- Work closely with engineers and management to optimize the winding process and integrate new technologies.
5% - Mentorship and Training:
- Assist in training entry-level and intermediate technicians.
- Mentor less experienced technicians and lead training programs.
5% - Safety and Compliance:
- Ensure that all operations comply with the highest safety standards and industry regulations.
Qualifications:
- High School Diploma or equivalent and a minimum of 8 years of prior composite manufacturing experience or 2 years post-Secondary/Associates Degree with a minimum of 4 years of prior composite manufacturing experience.
Preferred Additional Skills:
- Filament Wind experience is preferred.
- Composite layup experience is preferred.
- Experience with hand tools is preferred.
