L3Harris is seeking a Materials and Process Engineer to join our growing Huntsville, Alabama team.
We are seeking an engineer interested in working with non-metallic materials to support ongoing Engineering and Manufacturing Development programs, production programs and new product development. Desired interest and experience with materials/materials systems is as follows: polymer matrix composites (epoxy and phenolic resin systems) and polymeric materials, such as EPDM rubber and adhesives.
This position will report to the Senior Manager, Materials and Process Engineering in Huntsville, AL.
Essential Functions:
- Under limited general supervision of the Materials and Process Engineering technical leadership team and/or Program Chief Engineer, apply knowledge of engineering and scientific principles to resolve materials related issues, utilize six sigma techniques, lean manufacturing process knowledge and sound decision-making principles to perform the following duties:
- Participate in design reviews and customer technical interchange meetings. Support design process by providing material selection recommendations, creating material specifications, reviewing design drawings, reviewing manufacturing planning, providing supplier technical support and supporting Engineering Review Boards, Process Change Boards and
- Failure Review Boards.
- Develop test plans and characterize non-metallic materials; identify, develop, and/or release material properties (design allowables) to support design and analysis engineering disciplines.
- Perform engineering analysis of non-conforming hardware including coordination of analysis for disposition of Material Review Board documents. Maintain interactions with customers on materials obsolescence. Conduct project progress reviews to ensure program control. Conduct failure analyses to determine root cause, document technical conclusions of failure investigations.
- Support Parts, Materials and Processes flowdown requirements from customers; complete and submit Parts, Materials and Process documentation as required; support customer Parts, Materials and Processes Control Board meetings.
- US Citizenship required. Must be able to obtain and maintain a U.S. Security Clearance at the appropriate level (U.S. Citizenship required). Must also be able to satisfy federal government requirements for access to government information, and having dual citizenship may preclude you from being able to meet this requirement.
- Travel up to 15% of time on a yearly basis may be required to support work at suppliers and other enterprise locations.
Requirements:
- A Bachelor’s degree in Materials Engineering; Materials Science and Engineering; Ceramic Engineering, Chemical Engineering, or appropriate discipline, and 0 to 1 year of directly related experience
