About your next Challenge as a Senior Specialist, Systems Engineering:
The ideal candidate will have a strong and practical understanding of the design, operation, and maintenance of naval communication and networking systems. This includes experience with shipboard communication systems such as SATCOM, radios and antennas, and telephony systems in addition to computers and computer networking technologies.
What will you do:
The candidate will work with the systems engineering team to:
- Develop technical proposals;
- Develop and maintain system architectures and specifications;
- Create procurement specifications;
- Produce technical documentation;
- Prepare trade studies and engineering charge packages;
- Manage system interfaces and support systems test and integration events;
- Independently coordinate with customer and vendor represntatives, respond to information requests, and manage action items;
- Plan and coordinate verification tests, installation and trial activities;
- Estimate work packages and report progress;
- Travel occasionally within Canada to support customers or to meet with other business units or vendors.
The candidate must be technically competent to provide occasional hands-on support at integration and test sites onboard ships in addition to working remotely to perform systems engineering tasks: - Intermediate-level skills in electro-mechanical tasks, such as basic cable fabrication and backshell installation.
- Intermediate to advanced proficiency in the use of standard electronics test and measurement instruments;
- Physical capability is required, as the role will involve working aboard naval vessels, traversing multiple decks, carrying tools and equipment, and performing component installation or removal tasks; and
Required Skills and Experiences:
- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering or a related field with a minimum of 6 years of relevant experience; or a college diploma in electronics and a minimum of 10 years work experience in lieu of a degree;
- At least 5 years of hands-on experience in the field working with communication and electronics;
- Well versed in acceptance trials and set to work procedures;
- Shipboard experience with communication systems;
- Excellent problem analysis and troubleshooting skills;
- Advanced computer skills & Microsoft Office Suite;
- Knowledge of IT System Administration an asset;
- Experience reading electrical and mechanical drawings with the ability to produce technical documentation;
- Experience with wiring and splicing, including soldering and termination;
- Current or previous J-STD-001 / IPC-A-620 certification an asset;
- Self-motivated and able to work independently with minimal supervision;
- Good interpersonal and communication skills and the ability to work effectively in a team environment;
- Strong aptitude in time management: able to set priorities and organize workload assigned in an efficient manner;
- Ability to operate test equipment (e.g. function generator, oscilloscope, logic analyzer, spectrum analyzer);
- Possession of a valid driver’s license is required.
Eligibility Criteria (Mandatory):
- Must be eligible for registration with the Controlled Goods Program;
- Must be eligible to obtain and maintain a government of Canada “Reliability” status and Level 2 (Secret) security clearance.
- Must be eligible to meet the requirements for U.S. International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR).
