Job Description:

L3Harris is seeking a Lead Technical Writer to join our team in New London, CT. The lead technical writer will be responsible for developing and maintaining technical documentation using specified software.

Essential Functions:

  • Documentation Development:
    • Develop and prepare new Organizational Level (O-Level) and Intermediate Level (I-Level) Interactive Electronic Technical Manuals (IETMs) and other technical documentation based on government-provided Government Furnished Information (GFI), such as Engineering Change Proposals (ECP) or Engineering Change Instructions (ECI).
    • Update and revise existing IETMs and technical documentation to ensure accuracy and compliance with current standards.
  • Communication:
    • Effectively communicate the operations and maintenance procedures of complex submarine systems in a manner that is easily accessible and understandable by sailors and watch teams.
    • Collaborate with subject matter experts, engineers, and other stakeholders to gather necessary information and ensure the accuracy of technical content.
  • Testing and Certification:
    • Test and certify new and updated IETMs to ensure they meet Advanced Technical Information System (ATIS) requirements.
    • Ensure all documentation is compliant with relevant standards and regulations.
  • Technical Services:
    • Provide technical services in the development and maintenance of technical documentation, ensuring clarity, accuracy, and usability.
    • Utilize specified software tools to create, edit, and manage technical documents.
  • File Management:
    • Create and maintain Technical Documentation Management Information System (TDMIS) files for new variants and revisions to existing IETMs.
    • Ensure proper version control and documentation management practices are followed.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree and minimum 9 years of prior relevant experience. Graduate Degree and a minimum of 7 years of prior related experience. In lieu of a degree, minimum of 13 years of prior related experience.
  • ACTIVE SECRET CLEARANCE Required to start with the ability to obtain a Top Secret Clearance. 
  • Adept in the use of the following software applications:
    • XML editor
    • Saxson XSLT Processor
    • Apache FOP Java Application
    • Java Runtime Environment
    • Adobe Acrobat
    • Notepad++
    • MS Office applications
    • Adobe Photoshop
    • MS Visio
    • Roxio Secure Burn

Preferred Additional Skills:

  • Ability and desire to obtain a TOP SECRET Clearance

In compliance with pay transparency requirements, the salary range for this role is $86,500 - $140,500. This is not a guarantee of compensation or salary, as final offer amount may vary based on factors including but not limited to experience and geographic location. The specific programs and options available to an employee may vary depending on date of hire, schedule type, and the applicability of collective bargaining agreements.
