Job Description:

The Manufacturing Operations Manager reports directly to the MPES Anaheim Site Leader and is responsible for direction and management of Gardena site-wide operations.  As such, this position is expected to manage EHS&Facilities, Quality, Production and Manufacturing Engineering as well as collaborate with other functional leads within Materials, Engineering and Program Management to ensure proper execution of necessary production work.  This position will develop and implement management policies, controls, and operating procedures for all planning, direction, and timely execution of production requirements in support of operational excellence.  This position has the responsibility of supervising direct reports, provide work assignments, and staff evaluation and make recommendations for hiring and firing of employees.  Finally, this position will lead other functions in a matrix environment to drive performance for the business as measured via Safety, Quality, Delivery and Cost targets.

Essential Functions:

  • Develop and implement strategies to meet cost, quality, delivery, customer satisfaction, EHS, and continuous improvement commitments.
  • Develop a world-class operations team through staffing, training, and talent management initiatives while serving as a role model for integrity, inclusion, and diversity.
  • Effectively manage behavior, performance, and key deliverables across a matrix organization.
  • Support the organization in the development and implementation of operating philosophies and business strategies.
  • Develop, implement and sustain success metrics, incorporating best practices, and effectively communicating improvements.
  • Design, implement, and evaluate operational processes to optimize efficiency and effectiveness across departments.
  • Develop and manage operational budgets, monitoring expenditures to ensure cost-effectiveness.
  • Establish and maintain quality standards, identifying and addressing quality issues to meet customer expectations.
  • Track key performance indicators (KPIs) to assess operational efficiency and identify areas for improvement.
  • Present management performance data and metrics at operational meetings, program meetings and customer reviews.
  • Create operational plans, schedules, and workflows to ensure smooth execution of tasks. 
  • Identify and resolve operational issues, including troubleshooting and implementing corrective actions. 
  • Drive employee engagement through:
    • Leader of standard work
    • Factory Gemba walk process
    • Quality improvements and zero defect strategies
    • Comprehensive, proactive safety initiatives
    • Lean deployment
    • Mistake Proofing / Poke Yoke
    • 5S+1
    • Total Productive Maintenance (TPM)
    • Value Stream Mapping (VSM)
  • Analyze operational data to inform decision-making and identify trends. 
  • Work with cross-functional teams to align operational strategies with overall business goals. 
  • Directs and coordinates, through subordinate supervisory personnel, departmental activities and functions.
  • Confers with supervisory personnel to obtain data required for planning department commitments, status of work in progress, and problematic issues.
  • Assigns or delegates responsibility for specific work or functional activities and dissemination of company policy to supervisory personnel.
  • Appraises employee performance, recommends and/or approves wage and salary increases, promotions, employment, discipline, and terminations.
  • Works closely with the parent site to support production requirements.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree and minimum 9 years prior related experience. Graduate Degree with a minimum of 7 years of prior related experience. In lieu of a degree, minimum of 13 years of prior related experience.
  • U.S. Citizenship Required
  • Demonstrated results in driving process improvement at a site level.
  • Experience with lean manufacturing implementation.
  • Must have prior experience overseeing and managing the operational aspects of ongoing projects.
  • Must be able to serve as the liaison between project management and planning, project team, and line management.
  • Must have prior experience implementing and using lean methodologies and tools to improve operational performance.
  • Requires management and leadership knowledge in job area.
  • Typically has comprehensive knowledge and skills within a specific technical or professional discipline and may have broad understanding of other areas within the job function.
  • This position requires outstanding personnel management skills; excellent written and oral communications skills; must be a self-motivator and possess the ability to motivate others; and possess good interpersonal skills. 
  • Must be able to interface and lead Materials, Production Control and Planning, Manufacturing, Quality, Administrative, and management personnel.
  • Proficient in use of personal computers with the ability to use MS Word, Excel, Outlook, and Project.

Preferred Additional Skills:

  • Lean Certification
  • Experience in designing value streams and implemeting one piece flow.
  • Direct experience with defense contract industry is a strong plus.
  • MS Engineering Management / Industrial Engineering or MBA.
  • Demonstrated knowledge in the assembly and test of electronic components or systems.
