Job Description:

As the premier provider of Space Domain Awareness (SDA) mission solutions for the United States Space Force, L3Harris is seeking a chief software engineer (CSWE) to lead the software architecture, design, coding, integration, testing, and sustainment of a space ground system. The ideal candidate should have experience with the full software development lifecycle, full-stack software development, embedded software development, orbital mechanics, radar system technologies, optical surveillance system technologies, and optical image processing software. This position is onsite in Colorado Springs, CO.

Essential Functions: 

  • Recognized as an internal expert and thought leader in area of expertise with broad experience across multiple job areas.
  • Design, develop, and test software applications for large-scale operational systems.
  • Provides guidance, coaching and training to other employees across the Company within area of expertise.
  • Responsible for managing large, complex project initiatives of strategic importance to the organization, involving large cross-functional teams.
  • Recommends tactics and strategies that directly impact the achievement of overall business or functional results.
  • Communicates within and outside of the organization to influence leadership to accept new practices, approaches, and concepts.
  • Up to 20% travel may be required, including international travel.

Qualifications: 

  • Bachelor’s Degree and a minimum of 12 years of prior relevant experience. Graduate Degree and a minimum of 10 years of prior related experience. In lieu of a degree, minimum of 16 years of prior related experience.
  • Active U.S. DoD Top Secret Security clearance.
  • Ability to obtain U.S. DoD TS/SCI Security clearance.
  • Ability to obtain Security+ certification in less than 60 days.
  • Experience developing software in C/C++, Java, and Python.
  • Experience with DevOps practices and tools (e.g., CI/CD, orchestration tools) for infrastructure management and automation.
  • Experience leading technical projects and teams of software engineers to complete complex programs.
  • Experience with Agile software development and the software development lifecycle.

Preferred Additional Skills:

  • Active U.S. DoD TS/SCI Security clearance.
  • Active Security+ certification.
  • Experience developing software in Rust or Go.
  • Experience with cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, Google Cloud) and understanding of cloud architecture and services.
  • Experience in delivering fully integrated systems (hardware, firmware, software) in a DoD environment.
  • Demonstrated experience with technical leadership, including working directly with Earned Value Management (EVM) financial reporting.
  • Experience integrating software with electrical equipment hardware.
  • Excellent people skills, with experience leading and collaborating in a multi-disciplinary, diverse, and dynamic team environment.
  • Excellent communication skills (written, verbal, & presentation).

In compliance with pay transparency requirements, the salary range for this role in Colorado is $130,000 - $256,000. This is not a guarantee of compensation or salary, as final offer amount may vary based on factors including but not limited to experience and geographic location. L3Harris also offers a variety of benefits, including health and disability insurance, 401(k) match, flexible spending accounts, EAP, education assistance, parental leave, paid time off, and company-paid holidays. The specific programs and options available to an employee may vary depending on date of hire, schedule type, and the applicability of collective bargaining agreements.
