Job Description:
As a key leader in L3Harris’ Maritime Sector, the business leader is responsible to develop and execute the strategic vision of Surface and C5 Systems Command, Control and Communications (C3) business area, leveraging their full profit and loss responsibility to deliver our key financial and non-financial results. Attracts, develops and retains a team of high-performance Program Managers, System Architects and Engineers to grow and execute complex maritime focused projects and programs. Establishes overall direction and adherence to company’s processes, policies and systems. Develops and maintains close relationships with customers, industry teammates and internal functional partners. Business is located in Camden, NJ with an associate facility in Herndon, VA. Travel up to 30%.
Job responsibilities include, but are not limited to, developing trusted relationships with internal and external customers, leading exceptional execution of development and production programs, coordinating with business development managers and capture resources to shape new pursuits and follow-on production program requirements and defining winning solutions, leveraging IR&D investment, to positioning L3Harris to successfully win and execute business in this market. The individual will work across a matrixed organization, influence outcomes, and possess both strong Program Management fundamentals and competitive capture experience. This is a high visibility position, and the candidate can expect regular executive engagement internally and within the customer community.
This position has functional authority for planning, organization, control, documentation, tracking, integration, financial monitoring and completion of customer programs. A successful Director will work closely and collaboratively with our Engineering, Finance, Business Development, Program Excellence, Supply Chain, Operations and Quality departments. This position oversees developing a new business pipeline and managing proposal efforts from customer requirements definition through solution definition to negotiation and contract award. The ideal candidate will foster a cooperative work atmosphere, establish objectives, and provide transparent guidance to the team, ensuring accountability while offering definitive and beneficial feedback. This role requires empowering team members to take responsibility for their tasks, identifying and securing growth within funded programs, and aiding in the acquisition of new customer opportunities. Additionally, the candidate must exemplify and demand ethical and professional conduct in line with the company's values and support the broader development of a high-performance team and winning culture.
Essential Functions:
- Develop a vision, strategy and associated tactics for the C3 business that drives growth, develops our program manager’s acumen and leadership and established a culture of operational excellence.
- Lead and manage the business and achieve operational excellence and high customer satisfaction while meeting financial performance targets.
- Provide leadership to Business Development activities, including strategic business planning, new business forecasting and strategic capture.
- Plans in advance and conducts reviews & coordinate approvals of major bids and proposals to ensure success through opportunity, risk and financial analysis.
- Establish, grow and maintain close customer relationships, participate in the marketing and sales process, and actively promote the organization’s capabilities and strengths; ensure that customer perspective is a driving force behind business decisions and activities.
- Drives high standards for individual, team, and organizational accomplishment through teamwork and empowerment; tenaciously work to meet or exceed challenging goals and foster continuous improvement.
Qualifications:
- 15 years of experience managing a team in the Aerospace & Defense market (Maritime preferred), with 7+ years senior management role leading and motivating a diverse workforce focused on system integration.
- At least 7 years of experience of cross functional leadership experience spanning business development, program management, engineering, and operations.
- At least 5 years experience with Navy or equivalent acquisition process
- Strong Systems Engineering skillset
- Demonstrated experience building exceptional customer relationships in Department of Defense market
- A strong natural leadership style that motivates and inspires excellence
- A prudent change agent, able to quickly assimilate to a new organization effectively
- Capture Management and Proposal Management Experience in advanced technology
- Bachelor’s degree in Business or Engineering
- Must have extensive experience with Fixed Price contracts and Fixed Price major subcontracts.
- Experience with EVMS demonstrated on successful production programs.
- Proven ability to lead parallel development and deployment efforts through delivery and trials
- Demonstrated track record successfully transitioning new products and systems through qualification and into production
- Proven leadership and staff development skills
- Demonstrated ability to lead proposal development and capture efforts
- US Secret Security Clearance
Preferred Additional Skills:
- Post Graduate / Master’s Degree in Engineering or Business
- Soft skills (I.E. Proficient in SAP, MS Office, strong communication traits)
- Project Management Institute (PMI) Program Management Professional (PMP) Certification or working towards certification
