L3Harris in Bristol/Burgess Hill/Barrow provides warship automation systems through control and simulation solutions that are in service on Albion Class Landing Platform Docks and Queen Elizabeth Class Aircraft Carriers. More systems are being developed and delivered for Type 26 and Type 31 Frigates.

As the Senior Engineer within our Integrated Logistics Support (ILS) team based in Bristol, you will play a pivotal role in providing expert advice and documentation on supportability and support solutions across multiple projects. By working closely with engineering leads and project managers, you will oversee the successful delivery of ILS outcomes for your assigned project portfolio.

Your work will involve creating accurate, detailed Through-Life Support models, plans, and costings, which are crucial for securing business and assuring our customers of the robustness, reliability, and cost-effectiveness of our products and services in comparison to competitors. You will leverage your extensive experience to offer guidance at all stages of the product lifecycle – from design through to implementation – ensuring that products are designed for optimal supportability, availability, reliability, and maintainability in a cost-effective manner. Additionally, you will manage the planning and execution of ILS elements as defined by Def Stan 00-600.

What the role will involve

The responsibilities of your role will include the following:

  • Designing, developing, and documenting ILS solutions for both new and existing projects/products.
  • Supporting bids and proposals, offering technical insight to customers.
  • Defining and implementing comprehensive obsolescence management strategies for all projects and developing associated plans.
  • Producing and updating technical publications in line with design changes.
  • Ensuring compliance with relevant and mandatory defence standards.

What you’ll bring

The role requires the following experience and skills:

  • Minimum of 5 years’ experience as an ILS Engineer
  • Expertise in a broad range of ILS/IPS methodologies and technical risk management.
  • Ability to understand and create solutions for common ILS challenges and issues.
  • Proven track record of managing multiple projects simultaneously while meeting tight deadlines in a small team setting.
  • A passion for mentoring and developing junior team members.
  • Strong skills in stakeholder engagement and management.
  • Proficiency in writing concise briefs and presenting data effectively.
