L3Harris in Bristol is our headquarters for our Maritime UK businesses which provides warship automation systems through control and simulation solutions that are in service on Albion Class Landing Platform Docks and Queen Elizabeth Class Aircraft Carriers. More systems are being developed and delivered for Type 26 and Type 31 frigates. We have additional Maritime UK sites across Burgess Hill, Barrow-In-Furness and Portchester. What the role will involve
Reporting directly to the L3Harris Maritime UK Managing Director, the Head of Programme Delivery & Performance will be accountable for the delivery of contracted Warship, Submarine and Autonomy programmes, ensuring customer commitments are executed to time, cost and quality. You will be the senior programme leader in the Maritime UK organisation, as well as the senior point of contact for the UK and international customers.
Working alongside the Programme Management Excellence (PMX), Finance and Operations teams, you will drive internal performance measurement and reporting, including chairing Programme Management Reviews, to ensure strategic objectives and financial targets are achieved.
You will also provide leadership of the Maritime UK Programme Management function, supporting the ongoing development of the Project and Programme Managers, and working alongside the PMX team to ensure appropriate qualifications and training plans are in place.
This is a senior programme leadership role with real impact — shaping how we deliver L3Harris Maritime capabilities to our customers and driving continuous improvement in programme performance. You will also deputise for the Managing Director as required.
The responsibilities of your role will include the following:
- Leadership and line management of the delivery portfolio leads, and by extension the project and programme managers assigned to the delivery portfolios.
- Senior customer-facing point of escalation for delivery programmes.
- Ownership of internal programme performance metrics, working with the PMX team to delivery quality reports into the business, including supporting senior corporate reviews.
- Working alongside the Business Development team to ensure opportunities will be viable once on contract.
- Member of the Maritime UK Leadership Team, acting as the Managing Director’s delegate as required.
- Working closely with other functional leaders in the business, Division and Sector teams to ensure consistency of reporting and programme management methodologies.
What you’ll bring
The role requires the following experience and skills:
- APM PMQ or ChPP would be advantageous.
- APM (or equivalent international body) qualifications or training in EVM and Risk Management would be advantageous.
- Previous experience of delivering major programmes in defence, aerospace, or similar complex engineering environments.
- Strong leadership experience, including managing cross-functional teams.
- Good knowledge of complex programme governance and assurance, risk and opportunity management and operating within a formal financial reporting structure.
- Good knowledge and previous experience of working with Earned Value Management.
