About the role
L3Harris in Eight Mile Plains is The Centre of Excellence for Electronic Warfare and is home to world-leading design, manufacture and integration expertise and the sustainment of high-reliability electronic warfare components. Our highly skilled workforce design and develop Australia’s sovereign defence capabilities such as the next-generation space, airborne and cyber capabilities for the Australian warfighter.
This role is critical to ensuring the quality, reliability, and regulatory compliance of our electronic and mechanical products throughout their full lifecycle. As a Quality Engineer, you will operate within an AS9100D and ISO 9001:2015 certified environment, supporting key functions including program management, design, manufacturing, assembly, testing, and ongoing lifecycle management to deliver high-quality outcomes.
What the role will involve
The responsibilities of your role will include the following:
- Ensure compliance with QMS standards, support audits, and maintain quality documentation.
- Develop and implement quality plans across design, manufacturing, assembly, and testing.
- Investigate non-conformances, lead root cause analysis, and drive corrective actions.
- Monitor supplier quality, support audits, and resolve supplier-related issues.
- Coordinate inspections and FAIs, and ensure product conformance through assembly and test.
- Analyse quality data, maintain records, and report on performance metrics.
- Drive continuous improvement initiatives using Lean and Six Sigma principles.
- Collaborate cross-functionally to resolve quality issues and support engineering changes and NPI.
- Act as a key quality liaison with customers, ensuring compliance with specifications and regulatory requirements (including ITAR).
- Domestic Travel Required.
Qualifications & Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Manufacturing, or a related discipline.
- Minimum of 5 years’ experience in a quality engineering role, ideally within the aerospace, defence, or manufacturing sectors.
Knowledge & Skills
- Strong working knowledge of AS9100D, ISO 9001:2015, and applicable industry standards.
- Training in or hands-on experience with IPC-A-610, IPC J-STD-001, and MIL-STD-883.
- Understanding of Lean manufacturing and Six Sigma methodologies.
- Proven experience across the full product lifecycle, including design, manufacturing, and testing.
- Proficiency in quality tools such as statistical process control (SPC), FMEA, control charts, Pareto analysis, and root cause analysis.
- Experience working with ERP systems, QMS platforms, and inspection/testing equipment.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to engage effectively across teams.
- Ability to work both independently and collaboratively in cross-functional environments.
- Strong problem-solving skills with a high level of attention to detail.
- Demonstrated project management capability.
