L3Harris in Brighton are part of our Release Systems & Antennas division operating in the Aerospace domain. For over 70 years, L3Harris has designed and developed industry-leading carriage and release systems for fighter, rotary-wing and unmanned platforms and we design, manufacture and test a large portion of our release systems portfolio in our Brighton facility which offers 48,500 square feet of manufacturing space. Our mission-critical release systems equipment is on most major airborne fighter platforms worldwide, including the F-35, along with other aircraft like the Gripen and Typhoon.

Reporting to the Brighton site Quality Manager, this position is responsible for managing all aspects of the L3Harris Release and Integrated Solutions Ltd internal audit process, which is essential for this manufacturing business to identify, prioritise and act on areas for improvement and ensure the business acts to improve in a timely manner. The Internal Auditor is responsible for independently evaluating the efficiency, safety, and compliance of business processes and operational systems, focusing on compliance with these and industrial defence and aerospace standards relevant to the business, and reporting outcomes to senior management.

What the role will involve
The responsibilities of your role will include the following:
- Own and continually improve the organisation’s internal audit process.
- Compile and maintain the organisation’s internal audit schedule.
- Review procedures, records, registers, logs, and other documentation within the organisation’s Business Management System to check for accuracy, completeness, efficiency, and compliance against AS9100, ISO9001, business procedures, and related defence and military standards.
- Arrange and carry out internal audits to evaluate compliance against business procedures and relevant standards, and agree the required improvement action(s) with auditees.
- Prepare reports for management highlighting internal audit findings, root causes of inefficiencies, and actionable improvement recommendations.
- Monitor the implementation and timeliness of corrective actions and verify their effectiveness.
- Escalate to senior management when improvements are not carried out or when agreed timescales are missed.
- Support retention of the organisation’s AS9100 / ISO9001 certification and continual improvement programmes by owning, managing, implementing, and reporting on the internal audit process.
- Communicate the effectiveness of continual improvement and other programmes internally by preparing the related information for senior management consideration at management review meetings.
What you’ll bring
The role requires the following experience and skills:
- Knowledge of AS9100 and ISO9001(or similar)
- Bachelor’s degree in an Engineering discipline
- CIA (Certified Internal Auditor), or other relevant auditing certifications are highly valued.
