Glerysbeth Serrano-Flores

Software Engineering Intern
Chantilly, Virginia

"My journey with L3Harris began last summer as a software engineering intern, and I’ve had the unique opportunity to continue growing with the company ever since. Returning for a second summer felt like the most natural next step, because L3Harris truly invests in you, even as an intern! From mentorship programs to lunch and learns, there are so many opportunities to build your technical and leadership skills. I started as a shy, timid intern, but thanks to my supportive team and the rich resources around me, I’ve gained confidence and direction. As a Latina in tech, it means a lot to feel supported in an environment like this, especially with employee resource groups like Hispanic/Latino Organization for Leadership & Advancement that create space for connection and belonging. I’ve been inspired by the company’s mission and the real-world impact of the work being done. One of the biggest reasons I came back is because interns here are treated like full-time employees. We contribute to real projects and leave a meaningful impact. The company’s commitment to innovation, mentorship and empowering early career talent is incredible.

The experiences I’ve had here at L3Harris have helped shape not only my technical skills, but also the kind of leader I aspire to be. I’ve gained tools that will make me a better engineer and teammate. I plan to apply what I’ve learned in Agile methodologies, DevOps and systems thinking to my academic projects, student organizations and future career opportunities. I’m especially excited to use this knowledge to mentor others at the University of Puerto Rico Mayagüez, and to share my journey as a reminder that stepping out of your comfort zone can lead to incredible growth."

NIKKI Swensen

Project Engineering Intern
Canoga Park, California

"This summer has been a valuable learning experience, sharpening both my technical and communication skills. I’ve learned to approach engineering problems with a broader perspective, considering production, timelines and budgets. Collaborating with a range of engineers has also helped me refine my ability to communicate complex ideas across different areas of expertise. This opportunity allowed me to test both my strengths and areas I wanted to improve.

As an intern for the valve and actuators team, I have mainly focused on supporting RS-25 main valve production. As I return to school, I plan to apply the skills I have learned this summer by tackling academic projects more holistically, particularly in my role as an engine responsible engineer at the University of Southern California’s Liquid Propulsion Lab (LPL). My experience at L3Harris has strengthened my ability to contribute to high-paced research and development efforts. I’m eager to bring those skills to LPL’s mission of emulating industry standards and pushing the boundaries of collegiate rocketry. This experience will not only enhance my academic performance, but also better prepare me for future engineering challenges."

Kevin McKegney

Production Planning Intern
Clifton, New Jersey

"This summer, I was placed on the production planning team in the operations group. My summer-long project involved leading a large, multi-department effort to help reduce inefficiencies and support better production planning.

The skills and experiences I gained during my internship at L3Harris will be incredibly useful as I return to school and prepare for my future career. One of the most valuable aspects of this internship was the opportunity to advance my Excel skills. This growth will be especially helpful in my coursework at Rutgers, particularly in upper-level finance classes, and will also better prepare me for my future career. Managing a multi-department effort helped me strengthen my communication and organizational skills. Specifically, the time management organizational skills I developed will help me better balance my busy schedule on campus between coursework, extracurriculars and my campus job."

Kevin is a diligent and reliable team member who integrated himself into daily operations immediately. during his first few weeks, Kevin eagerly soaked up as much knowledge as he could about the Clifton site, the Operations department and the production planning function.

Ben Webster

Materials & Process Engineering Intern
Huntsville, Alabama

"I chose to return to L3Harris for a second internship because I found my coworkers to be exceptional in several areas: their willingness to advise and mentor, their commitment to forming connections and their dedication to their work. I was also drawn in by the cultivation of an excellent culture and community through events hosted by the Early Career Professionals employee resource group. Weekly sand volleyball sessions are one of the highlights of my week. Additionally, I have formed lasting friendships with my fellow interns from both summers. Activities such as taking trips, playing pickleball and kayaking together have made this summer unforgettable.

I’ve gained a comprehensive materials and processes engineering experience by spending one summer conducting materials testing at the production facility and another summer at the office focusing on the complementary aspects of design, planning and analysis. These skills are directly transferable to my academic and professional career, particularly as I begin a materials engineering design course as part of my senior year curriculum, as well as research for my graduate degree in metallurgical engineering. Additionally, I thoroughly enjoyed applying skills derived from my background as a math major through statistical analysis work this summer. This transition from theoretical coursework to practical application has significantly enhanced my understanding of math and its relevance to my future academic and professional endeavors."

Ben is an outstanding intern who has demonstrated a remarkable work ethic and a quick grasp of materials engineering principles. Ben's ability to understand and apply complex engineering concepts swiftly sets him apart as a valuable addition to the team.

Matt m.

Supply Chain Intern
Palm Bay, Florida

"I chose L3Harris because I have firsthand experience with the critical importance of the work we do here. As a United States Marine Corps veteran, I relied on L3Harris equipment daily, which was vital to our mission. The equipment I used, including L3Harris night vision, radios and IR devices, played a crucial role not only during training but also during my two overseas deployments. Now that I am out of the military and pursuing my college education, it was an obvious choice to intern for a company that had such a significant impact on my service. I am eager to contribute to L3Harris' mission and support the development of technology that is essential to our nation.

During my internship, I worked on a cost to serve project that gave important insights into the costs and spending of different businesses. My work will help with strategic decisions and improve operational efficiency. This experience greatly improved my analytical skills and showed my ability to achieve impactful results within a complex organization."
