Job Description:

L3Harris has an immediate opening for a Lead Image Science Engineer.  Image Scientists are responsible for providing image expertise in support of developing analytical processes and tools as well as assessing image quality impacts associated with collection and processing for dissemination, archival, exploitation and display of digital imagery.  An image scientist focuses on Modeling, Simulation, & Analysis (MSA) works to model image sensing systems, utilizes those models to simulate data produced by the systems, and analyzes simulated results in comparison to desired data quality.

Essential Functions: 

  • Provides image science expertise to conduct image/product quality analysis throughout TCPED chain.
  • Assess utility of image processing routines and advanced algorithms operating on today’s baseline and emerging remote sensing systems.
  • Investigates, analyzes, and provides solutions to complex problems encountered by engineering services and quality control using standard engineering practices.
  • Authors technical documents and presentations.
  • Provides guidance and technical expertise to other engineers and leadership.
  • Creates and presents results of technical analyses to management and customers.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Optics, Physics, Imaging Science, Mathematics, or Engineering equivalent and minimum 9 years of prior relevant experience. Graduate Degree and a minimum of 7 years of prior related experience. In lieu of a degree, minimum of 13 years of prior related experience.
  • Experience with signal processing, image processing, computer vision, or statistical analysis.
  • Seven (7) years experience with imaging system design for scanning and framing sensors
  • Experience leading/directing small teams of technical contributors.
  • Experience with mathematics and analysis calculating 3-D coordinate system translations/rotations.
  • Experience programming in MATLAB, Python, UNIX based scripting, and/or C++.
  • Six (6) years of experience working with remotely sensed data.
  • Active Top Secret security clearance.

Preferred Additional Skills:

  • Active TS/SCI security clearance.
  • Experience with Generic Linear Array Scanner (GLAS), Generic Framing Model (GFM), and Replacement Sensor Model (RSM)
  • Experience with Line Of Sight Modeling and geolocation.
  • Experience with image processing techniques and software tools.
  • Experience with ground processing architectures and image processing algorithms for passive remote sensing systems.
  • Experience as a Technical Contributor developing solutions for customers, e.g. image processing algorithms, engineering tools to interrogate/measure various characteristics of image data.
  • Experience developing engineering-level (not production-level) software routines in Python, C, C++, or MATLAB.
  • Experience with National Imagery Transmission Format (NITF) Standard.
  • Experience participating in multi-site working groups.
  • Experience in algorithm development for image processing.

In compliance with pay transparency requirements, the salary range for this role is $130,000 - $217,000. This is not a guarantee of compensation or salary, as final offer amount may vary based on factors including but not limited to experience and geographic location. L3Harris also offers a variety of benefits, including health and disability insurance, 401(k) match, flexible spending accounts, EAP, education assistance, parental leave, paid time off, and company-paid holidays. The specific programs and options available to an employee may vary depending on date of hire, schedule type, and the applicability of collective bargaining agreements.
