Job Description:

L3Harris is searching for a talented Manufacturing Engineer to support the development and production of next generation, ground-based, Communications Systems hardware. This position develops, implements, and analyzes manufacturing engineering plans and projects and communicates them to internal and external customers. Defines, develops, and transfers manufacturing and engineering tools, strategies, and systems. Develops manufacturing strategies for specific products and processes. Actively participates with engineering project teams to coordinate the release of new products. Estimates and tracks manufacturing costs, determines time standards, and makes recommendations for tooling and process requirements of new or existing product lines. Maintains records and reporting systems for coordination of manufacturing operations.

Essential Functions:

  • Provide input to Design and Development teams on Design for Manufacturability principles
  • Give guidance, coaching and training to the manufacturing technicians
  • Generating and updating Assembly Method Sheets (AMS) and directing support personnel in the day-to-day execution of the manufacturing tasks
  • Disposition of discrepant/failing hardware in support of meeting schedule, analyzing trends to identify where to take appropriate action
  • Working alongside Quality, Test and Reliability engineering functions to achieve common program and operational goals
  • Communicate effectively with internal and external organizations
  • Design and develop manufacturing and engineering tools/ processes, strategies, and systems
  • Create manufacturing fixturing using in house Additive Manufacturing processes and resources
  • Provide continuous improvement to drive out waste while increasing safety and quality
  • Support the root cause and corrective action process

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree and minimum 6 years of prior relevant experience. Graduate Degree and a minimum of 4 years of prior related experience. In lieu of a degree, minimum of 10 years of prior related experience.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience in Lean principles; mistake proofing, 3P, 5S+1, Value Stream Mapping (VSM), Root Cause Analysis, Cause & Effect, Gemba, Pull-Flow, etc.
  • Work is guided by individual annual goals and objectives with general oversight or direction.  Manages large projects or processes that are both inside and outside of immediate job area.
  • Responsible for managing complex projects at this level, involving delegation of work and review of work products.
  • Frequently responsible for providing guidance, coaching, and training to other employees across the Company within area of expertise. 
  • Identifies and addresses changes within own job area with impact on department results
  • Degree in Industrial, Mechanical, Electrical, or Aerospace Engineering
  • Hands on experience with Printed Circuit Board fabrication and/or electro-mechanical assembly
  • Working knowledge and general understanding of IPC -6012, IPC-6013, IPC-A-600 and IPC 6018
  • Background in manufacturing for Military and Government Systems
  • Experience deploying DFM & DFT strategies on high complexity products and programs
  • Knowledge in AutoCAD and/or Pro-E, technical writing, MS Project and/or MS SharePoint
  • Strong analytical and problems solving skills
  • Knows Aegis based Manufacturing Execution System (i.e., Fusion V7, FactoryLogix)
  • Automated/Semi-automated torque tools process development
  • Clearance: Secret
