About the Role
The Test Engineer/Designer role at L3Harris will join the WESCAM Operations Test Engineering Sustaining team and be responsible to provide daily support for the manufacturing test solutions used for in house production as well as production at our vendors (contract manufacturers). Our test solutions are automated functional tests we develop for testing Circuit Card Assemblies, Electromechanical Assemblies, Optical/Laser Systems and for fully assembled products. This role also includes ownership for upgrading the existing test fixture designs to improve test coverage as well as making them more robust.
Responsibilities
- Support activities related to test fixtures and software test applications for in-house production, vendors (contract manufacturers), Worldwide service centers and In-Country Assemblies
- Update test fixture designs and software to improve test coverage due to product design changes
- Provide electrical technical support to Circuit Card Repair Cell
- Build, update and repair test WHAs (to IPC/WHMA-A-620 Standards), Test Boxes and Test Racks
- Take ownership to update current mechanical, electrical drawings and process documentation related to test fixtures and test racks
- Manage and disposition Material Review Board inventory and manage aging inventory reports
- Create WICIs (Work Instruction/Conversion Instructions)
- Update and maintain Operation Engineering related Business Process flows
- Work with Design Engineering and Operations Engineering to debug and identify workmanship/thermal/design issues and electrical failures to improve yields
- Identify and monitor first pass yield and rolling yields, failure trends & systemic issues by conducting 8D root cause analysis and implementing permanent corrective actions of electrical assemblies and circuit cards
- Lead/Support tiger teams in quality issues as they pertain to electrical systems and test fixtures
- Identify, justify capital spend, procure and setup required test equipment for functional tests, troubleshooting and verification to product specifications.
- Support quality practices (AS9100 and ISO9001)
- Support for continuous improvement initiatives and projects
Skills Required
- Broad technical understanding of various technologies in Electronics and Test Engineering.
- Practical knowledge of circuit card assemblies, wiring harnesses, and circuit card manufacturing processes.
- Experience with WHA design and documentation to IPC/WHMA-A-620 Standards
- Strong working knowledge of communications protocols (i.e. RS232, RS422, USB, I2C, CAN Bus, Ethernet etc.).
- Experience with SDI video standards and signal analysis techniques
- Experience designing and developing functional tests and/or automation systems using LabVIEW & C#.
- Experience designing custom circuit cards using OrCad Capture and Allegro PCB layout is an asset.
- Familiarity with JTAG Boundary Scan testing.
Minimum Education & Experience Requirements
- Community College or University Degree in Electrical Engineering program.
- 1-2 years of relevant and recent experience in Test / Electrical Engineering.
- P.Eng designation an asset, but not required.
