Job Description:
Reporting to segment controller, the assistant controller will be responsible for ensuring adherence to Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and full compliance with all relevant regulatory requirements, including the International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR) and Export Administration Regulations (EAR). They will also be tasked with overseeing and fortifying internal controls to protect Aerojet Rocketdyne’s assets and guarantee the precision of our financial records. This position is responsible for overseeing all accounting activities, ensuring compliance with accounting standards, regulatory requirements, and internal financial policies. The Director of Accounting must exhibit exceptional leadership, analytical skills, and a commitment to upholding the highest standards of financial reporting and compliance. The role ensures the financial integrity and operational efficiency of the Aerojet Rocketdyne Segment.
Essential Functions:
- Ensure compliance with all financial regulations and standards, including Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP), and staying updated on changes in financial regulations and legislation
- Establish and maintain robust internal controls to safeguard the company's assets and ensure the integrity of its financial data
- Manage the financial close process for AR. Key activities include:
- Manage the monthly / quarterly close process to ensure accurate and timely financial reporting for the AR segment and related business units
- Ensure teams timely complete account reconciliations, identifying and highlighting potential reconciling risk items
- Drive submissions to consolidation and external reporting teams to support external reporting disclosures, including disaggregated revenue disclosures
- Environmental Accounting: Manage reporting and accounting of Environmental reserves and oversight of environmental expenditures against budget.
- Audit Coordination: ensuring that all audit issues are resolved and that necessary changes are implemented. Support Financial Reporting Controls Group (FRCG) and Internal Audit (IA) in annual Sarbanes-Oxley (SOX) internal controls design, operations and annual testing
- Oversee contract accounting process for segment. Key activities include:
- Determine appropriate revenue recognition at inception or award of contract
- Review CRW’s (Contract Review Worksheets)
- Orders and Backlog reporting
- Quarterly reporting and account analysis
- Serve as the primary accounting point of contact for Segment Controller to provide ongoing technical and operational accounting support for the business
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s Degree with a minimum of 15 years of prior related experience. Graduate Degree with a minimum of 13 years of prior related experience. In lieu of a degree, minimum of 19 years of prior related experience
Preferred Additional Skills:
- Professionally designated accountant – CPA, CA, CMA, CGA
- Demonstrated knowledge and experience in a senior management position within Accounting and accounting practices.
- Prefer industry knowledge (Commercial Aerospace and Defense, Earned Value) and familiarity with US Federal Acquisition Requirements (FAR) are preferred.
- Strong business acumen; understands business implications of decisions; displays orientation to profitability; demonstrates knowledge of market and competition.
- Ability to exercise sound judgment; displays willingness to make decisions; adapts to changing conditions; supports and explains reasoning for decisions; includes appropriate people in decision-making process; makes timely decisions.
- Ability to assess business risk and develop and execute business-wide growth and improvement plans.
- Able to communicate clearly and effectively with all levels of management and subordinates including making effective presentations to the senior leadership team.
- A self-starter, highly motivated, with a strong work ethic who has demonstrated high moral and ethical behavior.
- Demonstrated track record for talent development and leadership of staff/team is required.
- Strong analytical and technical leadership skills with vision beyond the task at hand.
- Experience in mergers/acquisitions, and ERP implementations.
