Job Description:
This role will provide Environmental Health and Safety (EHS) support for SAS Rochester’s seven locations, and implement or maintain company policies and programs adhering to local, state and federal EHS regulations. Areas of specialty for this position will focus on environmental, health and safety subjects including, but not limited to ergonomics, indoor air quality, crane operations, contractor safety, lockout/tagout, lab safety, fall protection, powered industrial trucks, traffic safety, housekeeping/storage, walking working surfaces, hazardous waste, environmental reporting, confined spaces, and Root Cause and Corrective Action investigations from work related incidents. This role reports to the EHS Manager for the area.
Essential Functions:
- Ensure compliance and stays current with Federal, State and local environmental laws and OSHA regulations
- Support management during investigations of industrial accidents, injuries, or occupational diseases to evaluate root cause and preventive measures based on the hierarchy of controls
- Evaluate and document various types of assessments and activities relating to ergonomics, machine guarding, walking/working surfaces, chemical management, confined spaces, powered industrial trucks, lockout/tagout, fall protection, crane operations, traffic safety, chemical use, contractor safety, and indoor air quality.
- Recommend process and safety features that will reduce employees' exposure to chemical, physical, and biological work hazards
- Ability to adapt well to fast-paced environments with changing circumstances, direction, and strategy
- May lead or support site safety and/or environmental working groups (green teams).
- Works with the EHS manager on sustainability efforts in line with corporate expectations including waste minimization, energy/carbon reduction efforts, water reduction efforts and wastewater minimization.
- Conducts site wide environmental, health and safety audits. Analyzes and interprets results, recommends appropriate corrective actions, communicates results and follows up on issues or concerns through completion.
- Ensures all environmental, health and safety incidents are promptly reported. Guides investigation team, prepares reports, tracks implementation of correction action plans through completion, ensures all required changes to policies, procedures and trainings are completed.
- Participates in review and approval of operations/facilities projects that involve proposed modification of any existing process, equipment or material as well as proposed introduction of any new process, equipment or material to ensure compliance with all general environmental, health and safety rules as well as air pollution control, storm water management, RCRA, or other such construction permitting requirements.
- Oversees site solid, hazardous, and universal waste management programs and activities, including the labeling, accumulation, preparation of waste containers and paperwork for off-site transportation emergency planning, reporting, and training of affected employees.
- Develops and trains line supervision and production personnel in EHS requirements in conjunction with the EHS manager. Ensures site personnel who require 3rd party training/certification are identified and complete requisite trainings.
- Maintains current awareness of applicable federal, state and local and corporate environmental requirements through participation in professional organizations, professional education and training programs.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Occupational Health, Environmental Health and Safety, Safety Engineering, Engineering, Industrial Hygiene, Chemistry, or related discipline with a minimum of 4 years of related EHS experience in roles of increasing responsibility and leadership OR a graduate degree in Occupational Health, Environmental Health and Safety, Safety Engineering, Engineering, Industrial Hygiene, Chemistry, or related discipline with 2 years of related EHS experience in roles of increasing responsibility and leadership.In lieu of a degree, minimum of 8 years of prior related experience.
- Knowledge of industrial safety requirements and OSHA regulations
- Ability to read and develop a solid understanding and interpretation of regulations
- Risk analysis skills - capable of hazard and risk identification, assessment, and controls; communicate risks and methods to reduce risk
- Effective communication skills and ability to engage employees and managers in support of a proactive safety culture
- Ability to adapt to changing circumstances and prioritize work effectively
- Must be self-motivated, results-oriented and possess the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously
- Familiarity with Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint and possess the ability to learn new software as needed
Preferred Additional Skills:
- Security Clearance or the ability to obtain
- DOT or RCRA certification
- CPR/First Aid certification
- CHMM and/or ASP a plus
- Office and industrial ergonomics experience/certification
- Bi-lingual (Spanish) speaking a plus
- Familiarity with industrial hygiene subjects and programs
- Safe chemical handling knowledge concerning acids, bases, solvents, beryllium, etc.
- Strong interpersonal skills.
- Excellent and effective written/verbal communication, organizational and analytical skills.
- Ability to work on multiple projects at one time, maintain flexibility, and work independently.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office products at an advanced level.
- Position is primarily first shift, but occasional coverage of off-shift activities may be needed.

In compliance with pay transparency requirements, the salary range for this role is $61,000 - $114,000. This is not a guarantee of compensation or salary, as final offer amount may vary based on factors including but not limited to experience and geographic location.
