Job Description:
The Director of Program Management, Space Control Systems Portfolio is responsible for leading a strategically important and rapidly growing portfolio with approximately $60M in annual revenue and a projected growth path to exceed $100M within 1–2 years. This role provides leadership across portfolio execution, financial performance, customer engagement, talent development, and growth strategy.
The incumbent will lead multiple programs and program managers in a complex, matrixed environment and will be accountable for delivering strong cost, schedule, technical, and quality performance while positioning the portfolio for scalable growth. This leader will work closely with engineering, operations, finance, contracts, supply chain, quality, and business development to ensure successful program execution and capture of future opportunities in the Space Control Systems market.
Essential Functions:
- Lead all aspects of the Space Control Systems Portfolio, including execution, customer satisfaction, financial performance, risk management, and resource alignment.
- Creates an execution-focused culture grounded in collaboration, discipline, and continuous improvement.
- Serves as a trusted leader with customers, senior executives, and cross-functional partners.
- Provide strategic and operational leadership for a portfolio currently valued at approximately $75M annually, with responsibility to scale the business beyond $100M over the next 1–2 years.
- Direct and develop program managers and portfolio staff to ensure disciplined execution across all programs.
- Ensure portfolio performance meets or exceeds commitments for revenue, margin, cash, bookings, and customer deliverables.
- Establish portfolio governance, management operating rhythms, escalation paths, and performance review mechanisms.
- Drive program execution excellence through disciplined planning, baseline management, forecasting, risk and opportunity management, and corrective action implementation.
- Serve as the senior point of contact for portfolio-level customer communications, executive reviews, and strategic alignment discussions.
- Partner with business development and capture teams to support growth strategy, new business pursuits, transition planning, and executable growth.
- Collaborate across functions to ensure staffing, engineering execution, supply chain performance, contract compliance, and operational readiness align with portfolio objectives.
- Lead portfolio reviews and provide regular financial, operational, and strategic updates to senior leadership.
- Build a high-performing organization capable of supporting increasing scale, complexity, and customer demand.
- Drive continuous improvement initiatives that enhance execution predictability, affordability, and organizational effectiveness.
- Directly impacts portfolio profitability, growth, customer relationships, execution outcomes, and long-term strategic positioning.
- Exercises broad decision-making authority within portfolio and business objectives.
- Interfaces frequently with senior executives, customers, and functional leaders on critical program and business matters.
- Travel as required to support customer engagement, program reviews, and business operations.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s Degree in Business, Engineering, Program Management, or related field with a minimum of 15 years of prior related experience. Graduate Degree with a minimum of 13 years of prior related experience. In lieu of a degree, minimum of 19 years of prior related experience.
- 12+ years of professional experience in program management, portfolio management, operations, or related business leadership roles.
- 5+ years experience supporting business financials including forecasting, budgeting, resource planning, and margin management.
- 5+ years of experience leading complex programs, portfolios, or business operations with significant financial accountability.
- Active TS/SCI security clearance is required
- 5+ years experience managing program or portfolio execution with responsibility for cost, schedule, technical, and customer performance.
- Professional experience leading cross-functional teams in a matrixed environment.
Preferred Qualifications
- Master’s degree in Business, Engineering, Systems Engineering, or related field.
- PMP, PgMP, or equivalent certification.
- Experience in space systems, space control, command and control, mission systems, or related defense/aerospace environments.
- Experience supporting U.S. Government, DoD, IC, or civil space customers.
- Familiarity with earned value management, portfolio governance, and development-to-production program lifecycles.
- Experience leading portfolio growth, program transitions, and organizational scaling in a high-growth business.
- Strong business and financial acumen, including forecasting, budgeting, resource planning, and margin management.
In compliance with pay transparency requirements, the salary range for this role in Colorado state, Hawaii, Illinois, Maine, Maryland, Minnesota, New York state, Cleveland Ohio, Vermont and Virginia is $160,000.00- $297,000.00. This is not a guarantee of compensation or salary, as final offer amount may vary based on factors including but not limited to experience and geographic location.
