Our Maritime UK business has four UK location and together we are powering the Royal Navy’s adoption of autonomous surface vehicle technology as well as delivering autonomous capability to UK ports, harbours and offshore energy service providers.

A day in the life of Commissioning Engineering Apprentice:
As an Apprentice within our Commissioning team, you will support the Commissioning and Maritime Operations departments in bringing cutting-edge vessels to life. On a day-to-day basis, you will assist with the electrical, mechanical, and software commissioning of vessels, ensuring all systems are integrated, tested, and compliant with relevant industry standards. You will take part in sea trials alongside our Maritime Operations team to validate autonomous functionality and confirm all safety systems perform as intended. The role will also involve the ongoing maintenance and support of both company and customer vessels, providing hands-on experience across the full vessel lifecycle in a fast-paced, innovative maritime environment.

What the role will involve
The responsibilities of your role will include the following:
- System Integration: Assist in the assembly and integration of unmanned marine systems, including hardware and software components
- Commissioning and Testing: Conduct initial system checks, perform operational tests, and support the commissioning of autonomous marine vehicles
- Troubleshooting: Identify and resolve technical issues during the commissioning phase, with support from senior engineers
- Documentation: Maintain accurate records of testing procedures, system configurations, and any modifications or adjustments made during the commissioning process
- Quality Assurance: Ensure that all systems meet operational and safety standards before deployment in real-world environments
- Collaboration: Work closely with other departments (MarOps, Program Management, Operations) to ensure seamless integration of systems and resolve any technical challenges
- Continuous Learning: Participate in training programs and workshops to enhance your knowledge of unmanned marine technologies and systems
- Completion of the Automation & Controls Engineering Technician – Level 4 Apprenticeship
