The Electronics Technician is based at the L3Harris Regional Support Centre (RSC) in Pinkenba and is a key member of the Maintenance Team supporting L3Harris Defence Australia programs. The role focuses on diagnosing, repairing, and testing Satellite Communications (SATCOM) systems, ensuring equipment is returned to serviceable condition in a timely manner. 

This position plays a key role in sustaining mission-critical communication capabilities while contributing to continuous improvement through accurate data capture, failure trend analysis, and collaboration with engineering, logistics, and field service stakeholders, while maintaining strict quality, safety, and security standards.

What the role will involve

The responsibilities of your role will include the following:

  • Perform fault diagnosis, repair, and testing of Satellite Communications (SATCOM) systems including Very Small Aperture Terminals (VSAT), radio frequency (RF), digital, and analogue circuits.
  • Operate and maintain electronic test equipment such as spectrum analysers, signal generators, oscilloscopes, power meters, and multimeters.
  • Accurately capture diagnostic findings, repair actions, and material usage within enterprise resource planning (ERP) systems.
  • Interpret technical drawings, schematics, and engineering documentation to support troubleshooting activities.
  • Support continuous improvement initiatives to improve repair turnaround times and reduce system downtime.
  • Provide technical guidance and mentoring to peers to build team capability and knowledge sharing.
  • Ensure adherence to quality standards, processes, and certifications in all maintenance activities.
  • Comply with all health, safety, and security requirements, identifying and mitigating risks where applicable.
  • Provide technical support to internal stakeholders and external customers, including occasional site-based support.
  • Participate in technical investigations and contribute to engineering discussions to resolve complex faults.

Qualifications:

  • Certificate III in Electronics, Communications, Electrical, or equivalent technical trade qualification.
  • Typically requires a minimum of 2 years of relevant work experience in a technical maintenance or engineering environment.
  • Demonstrated experience in diagnosing and repairing RF, analogue, and digital electronic systems to module level.
  • Experience using electronic test instrumentation and interpreting technical documentation.
  • Understanding of networking and communications protocols such as Transmission Control Protocol/Internet Protocol (TCP/IP), subnetting, and serial communications (RS-232).
  • Australian Citizenship is required.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a minimum Australian Government Security Clearance (Negative Vetting Level 1 equivalent to Secret).

Preferred Additional Skills:

  • Experience supporting Satellite Communications (SATCOM) systems including commercial or defence-related platforms.
  • Exposure to modem technologies such as iDirect, Comtech, Viasat, or equivalent systems.
  • Familiarity with subsystem components such as Block Up Converters (BUC), Low Noise Blocks (LNB), power amplifiers, and antenna control systems.
  • Experience performing diagnostics to component level and undertaking rework activities such as soldering.
  • Knowledge of military specification connectors including Glenair and Amphenol products.
  • Experience working within defence sustainment, maintenance, or field service environments.
  • Familiarity with enterprise resource planning systems for maintenance data capture and inventory management.
