Job Description:

Position Responsibilities:

The Operations Manager is a key leadership role responsible for driving operational excellence across multiple manufacturing areas and programs. This individual will lead front-line Production Supervisors and serve as a strategic partner to Program Management, Supply Chain, Engineering and other functional teams, ensuring seamless execution of the Master Schedule.  Through expert scheduling, Lean principles, and data-driven decision-making, the ideal candidate has a strong background in manufacturing operations, with expertise in capacity planning, shop floor control, and continuous improvement initiatives.

Essential Functions: 

  • Own and manage scheduling across multiple manufacturing areas and programs, ensuring alignment with Contract Delivery Dates (CDD), financial milestones and customer requirements.
  • Utilize ERP systems to drive Master Schedule Attainment (MSA) and ensure On-Time Delivery (OTD) to our customers.
  • Ensure production flows efficiently with minimal downtime maintaining targeted Direct Labor Utilization across all functional areas.
  • Implement and sustain Lean principles to improve throughput, reduce waste, and enhance overall efficiency.
  • Drive continuous improvement initiatives focused on standardizing processes, optimizing material flow, and improving cycle/takt time.
  • Utilize current controls while developing and enforcing manufacturing controls to monitor daily performance, ensuring adherence to budgeted labor hours and operational targets.
  • Serve as a key liaison between manufacturing, engineering, quality, and materials teams to optimize production operations.
  • Lead daily Gemba and Production Support meetings to ensure alignment across all functions.
  • Partner with quality and engineering teams to implement process improvements and engineering changes that enhance manufacturability.
  • Recruit, train, and mentor a high-performing production team, fostering a culture of accountability and continuous improvement.
  • Provide clear direction and performance expectations to supervisors and frontline employees.
  • Participate in creating and managing budgets for operating expenses, capital expenditures, and labor costs.
  • Ensure compliance with all regulatory requirements, including OSHA and environmental health and safety (EH&S) standards.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree and minimum 9 years prior related experience. Graduate Degree with a minimum of 7 years of prior related experience. In lieu of a degree, minimum of 13 years of prior related experience
  • Extensive experience in manufacturing operations, with a strong emphasis on scheduling, production control, and Lean methodologies.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience with ERP/MRP systems for production scheduling and material planning.
  • Strong analytical skills to assess production data, identify trends, and drive data-driven decision-making.
  • Understanding of cost accounting, financial metrics, and labor efficiency tracking.
  • Proven ability to lead cross-functional teams and drive operational improvements.
  • Strong negotiation and influencing skills to ensure flexibility and adaptability to changing production demands.
  • Effective communication skills, with the ability to present complex data to all levels of the organization.
  • Manufacturing experience within Aerospace and Defense industries
  • Union workforce and Labor Relations
  • Expert proficiency in Microsoft Excel (Pivot Tables, VLOOKUP, data analysis) and MS Project.
  • Lean/Six Sigma Yellow belt or higher
