Job Description:

The candidate will assist the Information System Security Manager (ISSM) in performing vulnerability and network scans on government-authorized systems. Responsibilities include conducting vulnerability scans, network detection, mapping, and evaluating controlled interfaces for assigned information systems. Proficiency with scanning tools such as Tenable Nessus, NMAP, Nipper, or other similar security tools is required. The candidate will also be responsible for analyzing scan results, producing detailed reports, and recommending prioritized remediation plans. A strong preference is given to candidates with scripting skills (e.g., BASH, Python, PowerShell) for tool development and parsing.

Additional duties will include authoring and maintaining documentation for the Assessment & Authorization (A&A) process under the Risk Management Framework (RMF) in compliance with NIST SP 800-53 and DAAPM Appendix A v2.2. The candidate will conduct security control assessments, contribute to Continuous Monitoring Plans, manage system configuration, collaborate with IT to develop device and system hardening guides based on DISA and NIST standards, and audit systems to maintain security integrity. Other responsibilities include performing hardware/software inventory assessments, identifying security control gaps, creating and tracking POA&Ms, remediating deficiencies, and conducting annual self-assessments. The ISSO will support incident investigations, provide security training, and maintain a system’s overall security posture, ensuring alignment with organizational policies and procedures.


Essential Functions:

  • Configure scan engines for vulnerability, network detection and mapping, and controlled interface scans
  • Execute scans, generate reports, interpret results, and recommend remediation plans
  • Provide any requested Assessment & Authorization (A&A) documentation of assigned systems as applicable
  • Execute Continuous Monitoring Plans
  • Interface with system managers and Information Technology (IT) personnel to track and resolve identified vulnerabilities
  • Create, maintain, and update documentation
  • Develop new concepts or standards which make significant and impactful improvements to processes, systems, solutions, or products

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree and a minimum of 2 years of prior related experience. Graduate Degree or equivalent with 0 to 2 years of prior related experience. In lieu of a degree, minimum of 6 years of prior related experience.
  • Active Secret security clearance
  • CompTIA Security+ CE or equivalent certification or ability to achieve certification within 6 months of selection

Preferred Additional Skills:

  • CompTIA Security+ CE or equivalent certification
  • Experience as an ISSO managing cybersecurity on classified systems under NIST SP 800-53 and DAAPM Appendix A v2.2 implementations
  • Experience developing, managing, and providing evidence to close POA&Ms associated with the A&A and project management processes
  • Experience with diverse workstation and server operating systems, including, but not limited to, Microsoft Windows and Linux
  • Experience with networking equipment; running vulnerability scans and interpreting results (e.g., Tenable Nessus, Assured Compliance Assessment Solution [ACAS], NMAP, etc.)
  • Flexibility to adjust to changing requirements, schedules, and priorities
  • Able to socialize ideas, make recommendations, and gain team consensus
  • Excellent time management and task prioritization skills
  • Exceptional verbal, written, interpersonal and presentation skills, customer relationship building skills, analytical skills
  • Ability to work in a team environment
  • Ability to script and develop parsing tools, such as BASH script, Python, PowerShell script, etc.
