Job Description:
We are looking for a driven mechanical engineer to perform process design, development, and qualification/testing tasks on complex mechanical hardware including precision mechanisms and electro-mechanical hardware, in a program team environment. Candidate is expected to own larger aspects of the system and be flexible with tasking as the program evolves. Program support and technical leadership over requirements definition, concept generation, material selection, trade studies, design sensitivity/optimization studies, preliminary and final design, design documentation, and assembly/integration and testing may be required. Candidate must have experience in 3D modeling, critical HW design and development and the ability to work independently and within a multi-disciplined team environment. Candidate must be willing to work within a lab environment and be hands-on with hardware.
Essential Functions:
- Mechanical design engineer to work with limited supervision in a variety of high consequence program activities
- Potential is present to internal and external stakeholders, including customer representatives
- Generation of Technical Data Package components (Part and Assembly drawings, etc.).
- Prototype, Integrate, and Test component parts and assemblies.
- Develop test plans and procedures for mechanical subsystems.
- Perform test and evaluation of component parts and systems.
- Participate in peer reviews, PDRs, CDRs, and other required design reviews.
- Participate in product change review meetings and discussions and implement changes.
- Participate in interdisciplinary design teams and reviews.
- Work closely with other engineers, designers, and technicians to meet deadlines and client expectations
- Provide quality control on projects that are produced by lower level engineers
- Serves as Program Management Office’s technical expert on all aspect of program deliverables
- Leads teams of designers, technicians, and mechanical engineers on a wide variety of program needs - shop drawings and submittals; issues and resolutions
- Lead RCCA efforts when needed within programs and across the Business and Division
- Perform and/or direct any engineering analyses required and develop quality design for projects
- Cultivate effective relationships with clients, customers and contractors
- Lead for a new tool concept and design
- Driving updates to legacy tools via assisting/mentoring early career engineers
- Provide feedback on standards and best practices. Adhere to company processes for product development, configuration management, purchasing, etc.
- Support field testing/demonstration efforts as an ME field representative.
- Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s Degree in engineering and minimum 12 years of prior relevant experience. Graduate Degree and a minimum of 10 years of prior related experience. In lieu of a degree, minimum of 16 years of prior related experience.
- Active Top Secret or Top Secret/SCI clearance is required. (Active within the last two years will be considered)
- Experience collecting technical information/documentation and presenting to program and engineering leadership
- Prior or current experience with CAD tools
- Professional experience with ASME Y14.5 standards
- Experience designing, integrating, and testing parts and assemblies
Preferred Additional Skills:
- Favorable polygraph
- Experience in design or development of precision mechanisms and mechatronic systems.
- Proficiency in CAD tools such as Creo and understanding of ASME Y14.5 Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing standards.
- Experience in additive manufacturing, part optimization, and design for manufacture and assembly a plus.
- Experience with any of the following: actuators, custom gear trains, electro-optical systems, materials testing, and manufacturing processes
