Job Description:
L3Harris is seeking a Cyber Engineering Director to lead cross-sector cyber engineering strategy and discipline excellence across the Space & Mission Systems (SMS) segment. Reporting to the Vice President of SMS Engineering & Applied AI, this leader will partner with the sectors to deliver on today's commitments while building tomorrow's cyber engineering discipline (talents, processes, tools) today. The ideal candidate is a strategic thinker with deep cybersecurity engineering expertise who scales vertically as a leader: operating hands-on at the technical level when programs need it, stepping back to drive enterprise strategy when the mission requires it, and coaching and developing the team at every level. This individual will own and drive the AI strategy and roadmap for the cyber engineering discipline and will partner closely with the AI Transformation team to ensure AI-native security engineering practices take root across the SMS workforce.
Essential Functions:
- Partner with sector leadership in delivering on today's program commitments while building tomorrow's cyber engineering discipline today.
- Lead segment-wide cyber engineering discipline initiatives while being available to roll up your sleeves and support sectors with urgent cybersecurity challenges and critical program needs.
- Coordinate cross-sector cyber engineering resource sharing, best practices, and discipline standards across embedded cyber, platform cybersecurity, RMF/ATO, and mission system resilience domains.
- Establish and lead Cross-Sector Communities of Practice (CoPs) for Cyber Engineering, accelerating knowledge sharing, talent development, and standards adoption across SMS sectors.
- Identify, evaluate, and drive adoption of cyber engineering tools, frameworks, and infrastructure — including automated vulnerability analysis, model-based security design, and DevSecOps pipeline hardening.
- Own the AI strategy and discipline roadmap for cyber engineering identifying where AI-augmented threat modeling, AI-assisted RMF documentation, automated security testing, and intelligent vulnerability management can transform how cyber engineering is practiced at L3Harris.
- Partner with AI Workforce Readiness to ensure cyber engineering AI training and workforce transformation programs are discipline-specific, practical, and tied to program application.
- Lead, mentor, and develop discipline talent fostering a culture of technical excellence, continuous learning, and security-first thinking.
- Serve as a trusted technical advisor and the segment's authoritative voice on cyber engineering standards, DoD cybersecurity policy compliance, CMMC alignment, and cybersecurity acquisition requirements.
- Champion cyber resiliency as a core design principle across all SMS engineering disciplines, working with peer Discipline Directors to embed security-by-design across SEIT, SW, ME, and EE domains.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s Degree Cybersecurity, Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Systems Engineering, Artificial Intelligence, or related field with a minimum of 15 years of prior related experience. Graduate Degree with a minimum of 13 years of prior related experience. In lieu of a degree, minimum of 19 years of prior related experience.
- 10+ years experience in cybersecurity engineering for defense systems, including embedded cyber, platform security, RMF/ATO processes, and mission system resilience.
- Professional experience developing large cyber engineering or cybersecurity teams across multiple programs or sectors in a defense environment.
- Position requires DoD cybersecurity framework knowledge: RMF, CMMC, NIST SP 800-53/171, DoDI 8510.01, JSIG, and AI/ML security considerations.
Preferred Additional Skills:
- Experience with AI applications in cybersecurity: AI-assisted threat detection, automated vulnerability scanning, AI-augmented RMF processes, and ML-based anomaly detection in defense systems.
- Experience with hardware security, trusted computing, embedded security architectures, and anti-tamper engineering for DoD systems.
- Familiarity with CMMC Level 2/3 certification requirements and cross-organizational compliance program management.
- Deep experience in cyber-physical systems security for space, airborne, or maritime platforms.
- Demonstrated experience leading cybersecurity proposal development and serving as a cyber subject matter expert for large DoD acquisitions.
- Track record of establishing enterprise cyber engineering standards and communities of practice across large defense organizations.
- Track record of successfully navigating complex organizational dynamics and building cross-functional partnerships.
- Proven ability to rapidly establish credibility and trust with senior technical and business leaders.
- Excellent leadership, communication, and stakeholder management skills with a track record of influencing across organizations.
