About your next Challenge as a Configuration Management Specialist:
Working as part of a dynamic multi-disciplinary team including software, hardware, and systems engineering, the candidate will be responsible for overseeing the configuration management (CM) processes and maintaining configuration records for systems, hardware and software configuration items. The candidate is expected to be a configuration management professional who can lead substantial process improvements, take accountability for configuration change management processes, and ensure that engineering changes are effectively identified, assessed, authorized, and implemented across a portfolio of communication systems projects. Success criteria for this role will include:
• Configuration management processes are published and kept up to date;
• CM tools and training are kept up to date;
• Configuration records are kept up to date, correctly versioned, and traceable to authorized change requests/change orders;
• Engineering changes are effectively coordinated and are tracked from identification through to implementation; and
• Configuration and change status is maintained and reported routinely.
What will you do:
- Become knowledgeable about L3Harris configuration and engineering change management processes;
- Maintain CM process documentation;
- Write configuration management plans for engineering projects;
- Identify process improvements, develop configuration management strategies, and lead change initiatives;
- Identify and evaluate tools and software that will support efficient configuration management across the business unit;
- Coordinate the development and release of engineering development baselines;
- Ensure that the configuration data is recorded, kept up to date, and compliant with applicable standards;
- Conduct internal audits to identify CM strengths and weakness and provide recommendations for improvements;
- Ensure that the identification and assessment of engineering changes is conducted and is sufficiently thorough;
- Convene change review boards, issue agendas and maintain a record of decisions;
- Work with change owners/assignees to prepare implementation plans for authorized changes;
- Collaborate with Quality Control to support resolution of configuration issues identified during physical and functional configuration audits;
- Maintain a system of record to track the implementation status and progress of authorized changes;
- Report configuration management metrics to management;
- Provide guidance and training to engineers and technical staff as required to ensure adherence to configuration management procedures; and
- Coordinate configuration management activities with customers and subcontractors.
Required Skills and Experiences:
- Bachelor’s Degree in a relevant field and a minimum 6 years of prior relevant experience. Graduate Degree and a minimum of 4 years of prior related experience. In lieu of a degree, minimum of 10 years of prior related experience.
Preferred additional skills, education and certifications:
- Broad knowledge of project management and systems engineering processes;
- Configuration management experience applicable to both hardware and software configuration items;
- Knowledgeable about tools used to support effective configuration management;
- Practical experience in engineering change management;
- Planning, organizing and information management skills;
- Experience leading diverse teams;
- Ability to communicate effectively with people from diverse backgrounds;
- Experience doing configuration management for complex defence projects;
- Experience with automating configuration monitoring processes; and
- Possess a professional certification applicable to configuration management (eg. INCOSE, ITIL).
Eligibility Criteria (Mandatory):
- Must be eligible for registration with the Controlled Goods Program;
- Must be eligible to obtain and maintain a government of Canada “Reliability” status and Level 2 (Secret) security clearance.
- Must be eligible to meet the requirements for U.S. International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR).
