Job Description:

The Sr. Lead Mechanic oversees and manages onsite aircraft and equipment scheduled/unscheduled maintenance and servicing for OA-1K Skyraider II / Air Tractor 802U aircraft. Supervises, or assigns a designated representative, repairs to aircraft and system components and engine repairs to ensure site aircraft are in good mechanical condition and safe for flight. Ensures contractual required FAA maintenance requirements/standards are maintained and releases aircraft for flight.


Essential Functions:

  • Schedules maintenance and inspections per the Original Equipment Manufacturer technical data.
  • Ensures site personnel meet and maintain assigned training and certification requirements.
  • Determines corrective action when advised of deficiencies affecting aircraft airworthiness.
  • Ensures scheduled and unscheduled inspections in accordance with Original Equipment Manufacturers (OEM) established procedures/specifications.
  • Oversees/reviews aircraft maintenance records and historical document entries.
  • Monitors/reviews deficiency reports for adverse trends.
  • Monitors in-progress and follow-up inspections during and upon completion of maintenance actions.
  • Responsible for ensuring employees maintain common hand tools and special tools in a safe and serviceable condition.
  • Responsible for site, customer, and company tool accountability procedures to include reporting unserviceable tools and equipment to the appropriate responsible party.
  • Ensures established policies/procedures and standards are properly complied with.
  • Responsible for site compliance with all safety, environmental, security, and housekeeping standards.
  • Assists in training newly assigned personnel as required.
  • Operates vehicles, both special purpose and regular, as authorized.
  • Accountable for good housekeeping practices, tool control, FOD awareness/prevention, and safety at all times with site-assigned areas.
  • Assists assigned personnel in researching and requisitioning aircraft parts and components and in determining the reparability and serviceability of these assets.
  • Monitors bench stock items and tool inventory inspections.
  • Actively participates in the Safety Program.
  • Discusses discrepancies with aircrews to ensure adequate troubleshooting information and flight data.
  • Other related duties as required to support contract and mission requirements.
  • Responsible for strict compliance with all required Communications Security (COMSEC) policies and procedures.
  • Obtains quotations from outside repair facilities for components/equipment that cannot be repaired or maintained in-house.
  • Recommends procedure changes to improve maintainability of aircraft and required inspections.
  • Consults manufacturers’ manuals for specifications and determines feasibility of repair or replacement.
  • Uses applicable technical data/manuals when performing aircraft maintenance and troubleshooting aircraft/system discrepancies.
  • Completes maintenance documentation using required forms.
  • Ability to read, write, speak, and understand English.
  • Willingness and ability to work shifts as assigned and travel as part of a maintenance recovery team if required. CONUS and OCONUS deployment may be required.
  • Willingness and ability to work in the established OCONUS work/living environment, work shift schedules as assigned 7 days a week, 12 hours a day to support mission requirements.
  • Ability to obtain a US Secret security clearance.


Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree and minimum 6 years of prior relevant experience. Graduate Degree and a minimum of 4 years of prior related experience. In lieu of a degree, minimum of 10 years of prior related experience.
  • FAA Airframe & Powerplant Certificate (A&P license).
  • Minimum 6 months of documented record of management and supervision of the same organizations and functions described above.
  • Ability to complete/pass a required DCMA physical exam and CRC course prior to OCONUS deployment.
  • Valid State Driver’s License.
  • Valid US Passport.


Preferred Additional Skills:

  • FAA Inspection Authorization (IA) is preferred.
  • Work experience on OA-1K Skyraider II / Air Tractor 802U aircraft is highly desired.
  • Formal or Specialized Training/Equivalent on assigned aircraft and equipment.
  • Experience in the use of common hand and special tools/testers as required for aircraft maintenance.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.


Work Environment:

The diversity of working conditions both CONUS and OCONUS range from an environment where there is little or no physical discomfort, to an environment where there are austere conditions and/or inclement weather that may subject the individual to severe changes in temperature, wind, rain, etc. May be required to work in areas where high noise hazards, exposure to fumes, airborne particles, and electrical shock hazards exist.
