Job Description:
L3Harris Technologies is seeking a Manufacturing Engineer to lead manufacturing in the development and improvement of manufacturing processes site wide. The type of hardware produced at this L3Harris location is often complex, containing circuit card assemblies, pneumatically driven mechanical assemblies, structural assemblies, antennas, cable harnesses and higher-level system assemblies.
The candidate will be responsible for developing processes and procedures to support the assembly of microelectronic modules while also maintaining work-product flow and addressing issue thereof both within and adjacent to a clean room environment.
Essential Functions:
- Developing, configuring, and optimizing industrial processes from inception through to start up and certification.
- Lead reviews of the manufacturing processes for quality compliance and efficiency.
- Participate in reviews and respond to plant production quality issues.
- Use of Lean Six Sigma tools to lead development and implementation of Lean Initiatives to drive continuous product improvements, integrate automation solutions and increase yield.
- Designing and implementing manufacturing tools and fixtures.
- Generate manufacturing assembly documentation and provide direct support of personnel in the day-to-day execution of the manufacturing, inspection, and test operations.
- Demonstrated ability using FMEA & DOE techniques to determine root cause and execute corrective actions of manufacturing process problems, workmanship defects, test failures, etc.
- Collaborates with Design Engineering to review and evaluate New Product Development (NPD) drawings, drive new designs toward optimized production processes which ensure the producibility of the hardware, engage with Suppliers early in the Design process.
- Analyze ECOs (engineering change orders) impact to Operations including, material in stock, work in process, and work outsourced to suppliers.
Responsibilities will include but not be limited to the following:
- Develop and maintain process specifications.
- Qualify new processes and training operators.
- Researching the utility of new materials and implementing new methods by which they can be employed.
- Support assembly of prototype and production hardware in assembly area.
The scope of processes, material and equipment will include but not be limited to the following:
- Bare discrete, IC and MMIC die and ceramic PWB attachment and interconnect.
- Ball bonding.
- Wedge bonding.
- Au & Ag wire & ribbon.
- Teflon-, fiberglass-, alumina-, fused silica- single layer Cu & Ag conductor PWBs.
- Multi-layer and multi-material-based laminates.
- Automated and manual epoxy dispense, placement and interconnect equipment.
- Hermetic and non-hermetic aluminum and kovar integrated electronic assemblies.
Qualifications:
- Requires proficient knowledge of job area. May have practical knowledge of project management. Bachelor’s Degree and minimum 4 years of prior relevant experience. Graduate Degree and a minimum of 2 years of prior related experience. In lieu of a degree, minimum of 8 years of prior related experience.
- Experience in CAD prefer AUTOCAD or PTC Creo, to design manufacturing tools and fixtures preferred.
- Interest in designing and producing a highly technical and high-quality product
Preferred Additional Skills:
- Clearance desired.
- DoD experience preferred.
- Proficient in MS Office.
- Good written and verbal communications skills.
- Self-starter with strong interpersonal skills, able to work successfully both independently with minimal oversight and in a Team environment.
- Good communication skills, including the ability to generate and deliver effective presentations to Customers (such as Manufacturing Readiness Reviews), Management and peers.
- Identify and facilitate implementation of facilities changes as required to support rate.
- Proficient computer skills, including MS Office.
- Experience in developing manufacturing processes and transferring such to production.
- Support 5S improvement activities.
- Knowledge of MRP and development of MBOMs.
In compliance with pay transparency requirements, the salary range for this role is $96,5000 - $128,500. This is not a guarantee of compensation or salary, as final offer amount may vary based on factors including but not limited to experience and geographic location.
