Job Description:
This position supports a strategic program essential to maintaining U.S. Armed Forces’ readiness. The successful Tool Maker will be responsible for fabricating, assembling and modifying a wide variety of machined sub components and fixtures. The Tool Maker utilizes a variety of machinist's hand tools, precision measuring instruments, lathe, and mill to deliver custom products. This position works collaboratively with production to produce sub components in a timely manner to deliver to our customers needs. Additionally, this will role be responsible for performing assembly and testing of electro optical and infrared products. The Tool Maker will work in a flexible environment, and will be a senior support individual contributor who can work autonomously.
Essential Functions:
- Set up and operate a wide range of manual tools and machinery (lathe and mill) to perform various close tolerance (± 0.0005”) machining operations
- Develop machining processes by analyzing drawings specifications to fabricate and modify sub components
- Provide rough estimate of hours for products based on drawings and work instructions
- Set up and operate machinery in accordance with operational & safety requirements
- Select machine control speeds, feeds, and path of cut based on machine operation, selected cutting tool and machining characteristics of material
- When applicable, assemble and review that each finished piece mates with other pieces to form a the required sub component
- Assist and troubleshoot with setup and operation of tooling in production equipment
- Review machining tools for obvious signs of wear; rework or replace tools as required
- Perform machine maintenance as required
Qualifications:
- Requires a High School Diploma or equivalent and a minimum of 8 years of prior relevant experience or 2 years post-Secondary/Associates Degree with a minimum of 4 years of prior related experience.
- 4+ years’ experience with the reading and interpretation of drawings and work instructions
- 4+ years’ of manual machine shop equipment with 2 years experience using Bridgeport lathes and mills
Preferred Additional Skills:
- Certification from National Tooling & Machining Assocation
- Familiarity with Microsoft Office (Word, Outlook, and Excel)
