Job Description:
Aerojet Rocketdyne, a segment of L3Harris, is a world-class developer and manufacturer of advanced propulsion and energetics systems for customers including the U.S. Department of Defense, NASA and other agencies and companies, both in the United States and abroad. Our markets include strategic missiles; missile defense; tactical systems and armaments, in addition to propulsion and power systems for launch vehicles, satellites and other space vehicles.
We have an immediate need for a Lead System Engineer to join our Missile Solutions Systems Engineering and Integration (SEI) team in Huntsville, AL.
Essential Functions:
- Demonstrate comprehensive experience with planning, coordinating, implementing, and communicating Systems Engineering (SE) objectives and goals to all levels of leadership ensuring successful design, development and integration of rocket and air-breathing propulsion systems.
 - Provide guidance, coaching and training to other employees across the Company within Systems Engineering and SE&I.
 - Demonstrate subject matter expertise within Systems Engineering that includes: requirements and functional analysis, risk management, and product development for solid rocket and air-breathing propulsion systems.
 - Lead large cross functional teams or technical support staff to implement performance of assigned projects leading to Milestone reviews.
 - Develop contract proposals, basis of estimates, and other SE artifacts to support the capture of new business.
 - Recommend significant improvements to existing processes, new products, processes, policies, standards or operating plans in support of Systems Engineering and Integration.
 - Apply advanced Systems Engineering techniques, including Model Based Systems Engineering methodologies, in the management of complex projects of strategic importance.
 - Communicate results in oral presentations and written communication. Represent the organization in meetings/teleconferences to resolve important questions and to plan and coordinate work.
 
60% - Develops systems, subsystem, and component requirements for rocket propulsion systems product development. Responsible for derivation, allocation, and documentation of requirements in requirements database and specifications. Coordinates requirements and related specification change management with IPT members. Defines and coordinates requirements verification plans with integrated product team members, plans and manages compliance assessment and certification.
15% - Performs functional analysis and coordinates system trade studies. Coordinates selection of optimized concept baselines through benefit/cost trades in support of definition of system architecture and objectives.
15% - Coordinates project risk and opportunity assessment and management and prepares and reports results on mitigation plans. May direct, coordinate and review the work of a small staff of engineers and/or technicians; estimates personnel needs and schedules and assigns work to meet completion date.
10% - Communicates results in oral presentations and written communication. Represents the organization in meetings/teleconferences to resolve important questions and to plan and coordinate work.
Ability to obtain a US Secret Clearance.

Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s Degree and minimum 9 years of prior Systems Engineering experience. Graduate Degree and a minimum of 7 years of prior Systems Engineering experience. In lieu of a degree, minimum of 13 years of prior Systems Engineering experience.
 - Active DoD Security Clearance.
 
Preferred Additional Skills:
- Advanced degree preferred.
 - Active DoD Secret Security Clearance is preferred.
 - Experience with IBM Rational DOORS requirements management software is desired.
